In chapter after chapter, nothing much happens except Darcy's continuing to fall for the ever-worsening Grace Space manipulations (even though she recognizes early on what a blood-sucking scam it is) and suffering the consequences. These were well-written enough, and I could have been 5-star happy if those slow chapters had built to a satisfying payoff--a juicy twist to the lackluster romance and a Boo-yah! comeuppance to the villains. Didn't happen. I was especially disappointed that the author waited till the last minute to assemble a dream team of sidekicks (Lori, Stephen, and the wonderful Gertrude) who could have helped Darcy make that big finish at the "nationals," then wasted the opportunity. ARRGGHH!
A smaller, but important, problem: Darcy's show of grace to Lori could have been a much stronger moment if something new and redemptive had happened that triggered Darcy to suddenly put grace ahead of greed, after having knowingly suckered people into Grace Space time and time again for her own profit. (Let's face it, this heroine wasn't all that much less manipulative than Priscilla and the rest--just less successful at it.)
Bottom line: With this author's talent and a little more developmental work on the story's fundamentals, this could become a 5-star book. To me, it isn't there yet.
It exceeded my expectations! This book made me laugh out loud; feel anger; sadness; and chuckles. But mostly it was the author's ability to write this with "tongue in cheek" craftiness, yet being able to exude the very life of a Direct Sales person's experiences and life! LOVED IT!! Kudos to Robin Merrill! GREAT WRITING!!

Seemed to be a little repetitive. NOT her best.
