I LOVED this book. Having said that I have been waiting for over a year for said book. I LOVED the first book, "Graceful Scars" and started nagging and bugging the author for a sequel immediately after reading the first one. She was uncertain at the time but the book screamed sequel so I just kept pushing. When she announced she was going to write a book including some of the characters I have to admit I was happy but cautious. How dare she tamper with my guy and gal from book one! She was going to push the new story much further into the future. I adored the characters from the first book and wanted them to have additional family and I wanted, and wanted, and continued to want. Ms. Stewart did her fans proud with this book and more. She gave us our guy and gal from the first book BUT, even though they were present throughout the book, she made sure that another character was now taking center stage. I never give spoilers when I review a book and won't start now. I now agree with Ms. Stewart (as if I have any opinion as a non-author) that pushing the story forward in time added a much needed element to this book. She was able to add twists and turns that would not have been possible if she would have kept the story in its original time period. This story had it all and at the end I was a sobbing mess. She did not compromise what "she" knew she had to do with our gal. Our guy/guys OMG. I was all over the map at points during this book. Her characters were well developed and the story had me in emotional, happy, sad, sometimes all at once. We also, yet again, have a side character who needs HER OWN SEQUEL. I'll just get that tidbit out of the way as a tiny preemptive strike. Please. Especially as I still have questions. I will spill those to the author. Trust me on this...Read more ›

4.5 Stars - Graceful Ashes steps outside of Savannah Stewart’s normal realm of heart wrenching romance and dabbles in the darkness, delivering a story that is powerful and completely unexpected. After meeting Zoey as the vibrant, sweet little girl in Graceful Scars, I was curious to see how Savannah planned on developing this character. She certainly did not disappoint, writing a driven, complicated, and deeply conflicted woman with big dreams and an even bigger heart. Zoey’s life has been carefully regimented, focused entirely on becoming a professional dancer, until Hendrix comes along thrusting Zoey into a world of chaos and life-altering consequences. As these opposite personalities collide, Savannah Stewart utilizes their stark contrast to develop an instant connection and a sizzling chemistry. A truly enigmatic couple, Hendrix and Zoey brought out the worst and the best in one another resulting in an unforgettable journey.

The growth we see in Zoey over the course of this novel was absolutely stunning. I never could have predicted the path of this character’s personal journey nor could I have prepared myself for the emotional impact of her story. I loved the risks that Savannah took with this character and her story, unafraid to explore the seedy, broken side of love and life. As Zoey is forced to rewrite her dreams, Savannah Stewart allows her readers to experience the never-ending hurricane of emotions right alongside this character. My heart ached and soared, breaking and being put back together repeatedly over the course of this story. Hendrix added an entirely different emotional component to this novel.

We first meet Zoey Fisher in Graceful Scars as a young girl. She is now grown up and her dream of going to school at Julliard has come true. She has worked hard her entire life to be a dancer. Leaving her family to move to New York was not easy for her, but she has done it. She stays focused on her dancing and not socializing. Coming back from a from class late, one of the girls in her building is having a party. Enter Hendrix. She feels this pull to him and as much as she tries to stay away from him, he keeps appearing in her life. The studious girl is slipping away as she gets pulled more and more into Hendrix’s world of drugs and partying.
Zoey’s life is turned upside down and her dreams are shattered. Will she have a second chance to reclaim that dream after all the mistakes she has made. What will Talon and Tegan think of her after all this?
I enjoyed the story and it kept me wanting to read and learn more. There were plenty of times when you saw the mistakes that Zoey was making you just wanted to reach into your kindle and shake some sense into her. There were times when I felt the storyline had some unanswered questions or missing pieces of information, which is one of the reasons I’m not able to give this a five star review. The other reason is because there were just too many typing errors, duplicate words in the same sentence or punctuation errors that caused me to have to stop and reread things taking away from being wrapped up and lost in this story.
The interactions with Clara and being able to catch up with Talon and Tegan from where their story ended in Graceful Scars were great.
I hope that Clara gets her own story.
I read and reviewed this story for Kylie’s Fiction Addiction.
