Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas ( DVD-ROM ) - PC
About this item
- Gang wars: Battles with enemy gangs are prompted whenever the player ventures into enemy territory and kills at least three gang members. If the player then survives three waves of enemies, the territory will be won and fellow gang members will begin wandering the streets of these areas. The more territory owned by the player, the more money that will be generated. Occasionally, the player's territory will come under attack from enemy gangs and defeating them will be necessary to retain these areas. Once all marked territories are claimed from one of the two other gangs for the Grove Street Families, that gang can no longer attack. Once the player takes control of all the territories, none can come under attack.
- Car modification: Most automobiles in the game can be modified and upgraded at various garages. All car mods are strictly visual apart from the stereo and nitrous oxide upgrade which increases bass and gives the car a speed boost when activated respectively; and hydraulics, which lowers the car's height by default and allows the player to control various aspects of the car's suspension. Other common modifications include paintjobs, rims, body kits, side skirts, bumpers and stereo system upgrades.
- Burglary: Continuing the series' tradition of controversy, home invasion is included as a potential money-making activity.[17] By stealing a burglary van, CJ is able to sneak into a residence at night, and cart off valuables or shake down the occupants. Minigames: Numerous minigames are also available for play in San Andreas, including basketball, pool, rhythm-based challenges (dancing and 'bouncing' lowriders with hydraulics), and video game machines that pay homage to classic arcade games. In addition, there are the aforementioned casino games and methods of gambling, such as betting on virtual horse races.
- Money: The money system has been expanded upon, compared to previous titles. Players can spend their cash on gambling, tattoos, meals, etc. Excessive gambling loss can force the player to sink into debt, which is shown in red negative numbers. When the player leaves a safehouse, CJ gets an unexpected call and a mysterious person tells him about his debts. Four gang members suddenly appear and shoot Carl on sight if he does not erase the debt when the mysterious person calls him a second time.
- Multiplayer: Rampages have been modified to allow two players to complete them. The players are both shown simultaneously on the screen, meaning they must stay within close proximity of each other. The multiplayer rampages were removed from the PC version of the game. While multiplayer modes were absent on the PC version (as with the previous games), third-party modifications like Multi Theft Auto and San Andreas Multiplayer provide such functionality.

If you have windows 7, it might take you sometime to set up the game apparently. It took 2 hours to set up the game, simply because the game was designed for xp or whatever. Installing it make sure anti virus doesnt block it, it may do so without alerting you, it helps to have programs like windows task open and put the install wizard in the background. after its installed, make sure to adjust the properties to windows 7 or service pack 3 if it continues to crash, or possibly look for mods to help with that if the problem persists. Make sure to run the game as an Admin.
When clicking on the icon on desktop the error that the disc is not in or incorrect might appear is a bug. instead, open the start menu, into the Rockstar folder and run the game as an admin, you should be prompted with a box asking if you want to allow this application access and whatnot, from there on the game should work fine.
Older games will have crashes every now and then on windows 7, you have to mess with it and configure or like i said mod it with unofficial patches. If you play with cheats just Bing the gtasa cheats for pc, you can get them off the gta website, and if you need more help, look at gtaforums.com and go to the SA section.
The glitch in San Andreas is very frustrating though. I have researched the online solutions and have not found one that solves it. The glitch can happen anytime in the game and causes the computer to crash. I had to turn off the power to the computer to get it started again.
I have the 2nd edition of the game on a DVD-ROM.

"What did you get?"
The obvious. Case, cover art for case, and of course the disc. I expected a map+wallpaper and a manual. It matters to me because the manuals that came with GTA Vice City, GTA III, and GTA San Andreas for the PS2/Xbox versions were really interesting. I enjoyed reading them as if they were actual guides into the worlds of Vice City, Liberty City, and San Andreas. Witty remarks, the list of soundtracks, and obviously the credits. If it'll cost more, I would definitely buy it for a little more.
Note: I expected this to be version 1.0 but it's version 2.0(Image included)
"Why not just get it cheap on Steam?"
I do have it on Steam. I thought this was version 1.0.
"Why does it matter that it's version 1.0?"
There are bugs in this game that I want fixed that Rockstar hasn't patched or fixed and there are fixes that the gaming/modding community have made but only work with version 1.0. Also, there are rarely any mods(are there any?) for version 2.0.
If you ever get the chance to get the true version 1.0 edition take it, instead of 2.0.
"Can I downgrade to version 1.0?"
Yes. Use a search engine (Google, Duckduckgo, etc) then search for "PC Gaming Wiki San Andreas". The site will give you a lot of useful information.

San Andreas is truly a pinnacle of the Grand theft auto series and is definitely worth the buy.
Plus this copy activates on steam and you can't go wrong with that.

Delivery and installation
The game arrived within 10 days... a little long considering the distance traveled but well within the predicted date of delivery. The game itself came in fantastic condition. San Andreas installed without a problem. Although I have a 64-bit Windows 7, the system was bright enough to adapt and deactivated its premium features to work as Windows Basic, so there would be no compatibility issues.
Problems
First issue: When I started playing, I quickly realized that there were graphical issues. Darker colors in the game were not precise, and black cannot be displayed at all. Instead, these colors are replaced by a weird mix of other darker colors. Fortunately, I can say that these errors have not affected gameplay at all. They are minor enough that they do not distract the player. For the record, my PC is a 4-month old Dell with an HD 6770 graphics card, all drivers up to date. All my other games, including the 15-year old Age of Empires work flawlessly, so I'm pretty sure my computer is not the problem.
Second issue: For some reason, the game does not at first recognize the mouse. Possibly through sheer luck, I have discovered a way around it on my PC. If I go to the options menu, and I turn "Steer with Mouse" option on, it won't fix it. But, for some reason, if I go back to the game, then back to the menu, and then turn the "Steer with Mouse" option off again, the mouse miraculously starts working! It makes no sense whatsoever to me, but I'm glad I can actually play the game. I think the game permits you to program other keys on the keyboard to replace the mouse, but to me, not having the precision of a mouse would have been a deal breaker. However, I have to go through this process of activating and deactivating the aforementioned option every time I start the game.
If there is a way to fix these issues permanently, I haven't found them.
The game
San Andreas has become a classic for a reason. The game offers an extensive amount of features which ensure that you won't get bored of it very soon. The story follows Carl Johnson, a former gangster who has recently returned to his hood to find out that his mother is dead. You progress through the story by completing missions which earn you respect from your former gang. These missions include drive-bys, petty theft, assassinations, turf wars with other gangs and so on. All of these have to be done without attracting too much attention from the police, or you're dead. Of course, you can have some fun and try to fight them off, but if you don't get rid of your wanted level, you'll end up wasted eventually. You also have to keep up with more everyday things like eating, working out and getting a girlfriend.
So far, the game has been loads of fun, although some missions can get really frustrating and at the moment I'm actually stuck on one of them. However, the game is still fun and challenging, and the number of things you can discover is endless.
Overall, if you have a lot of time to waste like me, and you're into beating up innocent pedestrians and virtual mass murders, I definitely recommend the game.
9/10 for the game itself, but I'd take off about one point for the issues.
