Tim Bogenn was born in Grosse Pointe Michigan, moved to California's bay area in the early '90s where he started working at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) just months before the launch of the first PlayStation. After three years with SCEA he began writing video game strategy guides for BradyGames which was later involved in a forced merger with Prima Games Publishing. Since 1998 he has written well over 100 strategy guides, the most popular being from the Grand Theft Auto series. Tim currently lives in Greenville, North Carolina where he and his wife Jennifer currently own and operate 7 House, a creative studio in the uptown Greenville's art district.

BradyGames is a publishing company in the United States operating as a DK imprint, which specializes in video game strategy guides, covering multiple video game platforms. It published their first strategy guide in November 1993 and has grown to publish roughly 90-100 guides per year. On June 1, 2015, BradyGames merged with Prima Games, and future strategy guides made by the publishing company will be published under the Prima Games label.

i have seen others have said that this guide isn't for xbox one version etc.. i haven't ran into any issues as far as that goes.
This book was published in 2013.
The vehicle guide lists the four stats for every game in the vehicle, which is awesome. But on several pages "Acceleration" and "Braking" are reversed. Anybody with a brain would be able to spot this and disregard it, but there are obviously people rating this who are very annoyed by it. In previous guide books (notably the San Andreas guide for Xbox/PS2) there have been descriptions of where to find or how to ascertain certain cars. That isn't really apparent here, aside from a mention of where certain rare cars can be purchased on the game's internet app. I'd consider this just enough to knock a star off my rating. It's kind of odd. Not to mention there are typos and other instances where descriptions, photos, and items on a map are jumbled. This can make finding certain things or triggering certain missions confusing. In a game where seeking out so many items and missions is so important, an official guide should be edited and proofread a lot better.
The actual layout of the book bothers me. It's just not intuitive to have certain maps printed so small or lists of items arranged alphabetically. I can't explain this efficiently enough, but a perfect example would be that the first three stunt jumps as listed in the book are on opposite sides of them map. If you wanted to hop on a bike and go do all the stunt jumps in order, following along with this book will have you driving to opposite ends of the map as opposed to doing one, then doing the one nearby, etc etc etc until you found them all. I don't know if this applies to letter scraps, hidden packages, or space ship parts (I haven't started those yet), but I do know this is the case for stunt jumps and random events. Of course you can do these in any order and just cross them off as you go, but a good guide would list the most efficient ways to find these items. Also, some items are color coded while listed and dotted on a map (armor vs weapons) but when you flip the page to detailed descriptions, they're all labeled with the same color, which I found inconsistent.
As a few people have mentioned, the actual mission guide is not very detailed. The book tells you little more than the general outline of things that occur in the game. This sort of defeats the point of a 400+ page strategy guide. But people who are giving this only one star are ridiculous. It's very nice, and thorough as far as listing what the game has to offer, and obviously a lot went into organizing the information for all the games side quests and objectives.
All I can say I got from this book was car stats at glance (which can probably be found online now), weapons/armor/hidden items maps (also probably online), and some great detail about how to the actual mathematical breakdown of how to increase stats (probably online by now, though most likely plagiarized from this very book).
In this guide you will find several maps of Los Santos revealing weapon, armor, health and special quest item locations.
You will also find a full vehicle/aircraft guide pre GTA update 1.06, which means no bifta or whatever the other two vehicles are. Also, without looking at it I believe the pre-order vehicles (Hotknife/Khamelion/Carbon/Elegy) are not in this guide either.
These are all conveniently located at the beginning of the guide so you can get straight into wreaking havoc as soon as you get into the free mode part of story.
Many sites online will help you get to 100% completion for this GTA V. But if you got the 22 spare bucks and you don't want to bother searching the web when you can have it all in one, this guide is a great buy.
Also I must note that none of the online missions were included, nor is there any online specific information in the guide. At least when I bought this to go with my preorder.
So to sum this up, I thought it is a wonderful strategy guide with lots of cool illustrations and information about the game, but I was really dissapointed that the lithograph is smaller than I expected.

The guide provides a comprehensive list of weapons, vehicles etc. and descriptions of every mission.
However, the things that guides are most useful for are the collectibles, stunt jumps, flying under bridges etc. For most the guide is OK, but it really can't stand up to the many video guides found online. It is much easier to see someone meeting the criteria for a stunt jump and then just copying them than to try and understand based on the description here.
The 2 areas where this guide really fails are with the stunt jumps. The order for which the stunt jumps are listed makes no sense, if you were to follow them you would be driving back and forth across the entire length of the map, missing other stunt jump opportunities as you go. The online videos do a much better job of showing you the most efficient order to do them in. Also the main map shows you where the jump takes place, not where you need to go to start the jump, so if you follow that you end up putting the wrong GPS marker on your map.
The map itself is the other problem with the guide, it doesn't match the one found in-game, so making sure you're in the right place can be difficult as it's not easy to match up the 2 maps. This is particularly problematic in densely populated areas where there are multiple collectibles, stunt jumps, knife flights etc. close together.
Despite these issues, it's still a nice book and a nice item for fans of GTA V.
The pages are crisp and smooth, they're glossy and are printed very well. It also contains some lithographs which aren't needed but a welcome addition to an already lovely product.
The chapters are written well, the pictures added are both relevant and nice to look at. It's laid out very well and is easy to navigate to the relevant missions, collectables and maps.
If you're someone who likes to know every knit-picking detail about the games you're playing, especially games so dense and large as this, then it's a nice addition.
It's nothing you couldn't find on the internet if you're prepared to get up and look, but I still enjoy the act of looking in a book and navigating to the right place and sitting back to read it. It's a seldom enjoyed luxury nowadays, and with the books design, it feels like a joy to do so. It also adds to resale value of games, it's a nice collectable to keep on your shelf too.
Like most now, I've completed the main missions in GTA 5 - not all gold as most were completed just trying to get through to the end. This book explains how to get gold every mission.
It gives every one of those but also shows you how to get all of the letter scraps and alien artefacts.
This book also has Submarine parts, Nuclear Waste parts, and Hidden packages as well as every level breakdown to achieve Gold.
If you want a guide to EVERYTHING GTA 5 - no other publication looks this good and delivers the WHOLE game.
My main gripe is the amount of missing/inaccurate info regarding hidden packages, stock markets, and of course GTA online. But it is forgivable on the most part because let's not forget this is the first and only print of a limited edition book for a game that has already undergone a few updates since its original release.
HOWEVER...
...Anyone else not been able to find ALL of the hidden packages underwater? I have only found 3/12 (2 underwater) with all the characters (just to be sure of a glitch) despite finding the correct locations described in the guide. Why?
