Tim Bogenn was born in Grosse Pointe Michigan, moved to California's bay area in the early '90s where he started working at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) just months before the launch of the first PlayStation. After three years with SCEA he began writing video game strategy guides for BradyGames which was later involved in a forced merger with Prima Games Publishing. Since 1998 he has written well over 100 strategy guides, the most popular being from the Grand Theft Auto series. Tim currently lives in Greenville, North Carolina where he and his wife Jennifer currently own and operate 7 House, a creative studio in the uptown Greenville's art district.

This guide helped me as much as the one for GTA San Andreas. When I had no idea what I was doing, wasn't fooling around with Roman, or wasn't improvising on my own, I would reach for this guide and use it with ease. While I do miss what some of the other guide books had (e.g. cars, categorized extras, etc...), it does help you with the overall point of the game: the plot. The main point of this game is that there is a plot and you need to stick to the plot, accomplish tasks, and ensure you performed the tasks properly to advance throughout the game. If you don't stick to the plot, you can, of course, have fun with the game and perform other things as with the previous GTA games. You don't want to buy this guide if you can get through the plot without it, but you might want to purchase it for the extras.

There is so much to GTA IV that without this guide, it would be extremely hard to hit that 100% completion.. This guide takes you though all the details of the game, mission by mission.. Also includes things like location of every stunt jump and flying rat.. Details of the jobs for Jacob, Brucie's Wanted Car List, Stevie's Wanted Car List, Street Races, Random Characters, Most Wanted Missions, Assassination Missions, and also all your friends and girlfriends favorite activities..

The only thing I do not like about this guide is the odd jobs and friends activities are mixed in with the missions.. So I have to flip back and find what I'm looking for.. If they had kept that separated it would be a little easier.. All in all I consider this guide a necessity.

Been Looking for this guide after the game came out over two years ago. Got it about two weeks ago. Cover show some wear on it, but other then that it's all good. everything that's in a game guide is there. It shows you how to do the missions and everything else in the game. I like this guide and it was less then the cover price when i bought it, which is also what i like. Just wish bradygames would release a newer, bigger guide for the main game and dlc's instead of buying a sepreate guide for them both.
Anyways, Grand Theft Auto IV is still one of the best open world games on the Market and this game guide compliments it.

This is an excellent strategy guide. It gives a very detailed explanation for each mission you incur. The maps show the locations of weapons, businesses, cars, characters, hidden items, etc. A lot of work went into the guide. My only complaint is that it does not show pictures of all the cars in the game. The San Andreas guide had that. This is why I give it a 4.

I found this guide very helpful and in many cases it saved me loads of time and taught me a ton of things I never would have known had I not had the book. I completed the game 100% which never would have happend without this guide. My brother was playing the game at the same time and kept calling me asking for tips out of the book when he got stuck on missions. I'm glad I got the most out of this game and can't wait for gta 5.

If the main reason for getting this guide is to attain that 100% rating and I'm pretty sure it can help you do that. But the guide feels light on content by comparison to those in the series for previous GTA outings like San Andreas and it has the feel that is was rushed out to coincide with the game's launch. For example there is no definitive list of vehicles like in previous guides. Side missions like dating are covered but it's broken up with different aspects of it scattered throughout the main narrative section and other things are just not mentioned in the right place - there's a brief explanation of the wanted levels on page 7 of the pre-amble but you will only find out how you can reduce you wanted level by three stars by dating Kiki in a section on Online Dating on page 101 in the Main Story Walkthrough. So this book could really do with the one thing it hasn't got - an index.

The one thing that is useful are the maps but these are small by comparison to those accompanying previous GTA guides which means that the markers are only approximate locations on the map. Other reviewers have also mentioned an error in the location given for one item.

Now that the game has been out a few years you can now find all the material covered in this book online but unlike this guide most game sites are indexed and searchable so it's much easier to find exactly what you're looking for. And they also list cheat codes should you need them.
