I want to start off this review discussing the basement under the library. The area, which housed magical artifacts, reminded me of two great shows -- Warehouse 13 and The Librarians. The basement was truly a wonderland for the magically gifted humans. Heck, it's pretty impressive for the "normal" folks, too.
Speaking of normal folks, I was glad Maureen finally enlightened me what the heck an m 'n' m was on page 165 (in paperback). I knew she wasn't referring to the sweet treat and was pleased to learn it stood for magic mimiker. With that bit of knowledge tucked away, the previous passages made more sense and proved to be more enjoyable.
All in all, this story was cute. I wasn't blown away by it, but I also wasn't bored out of my mind either.
Would I recommend it to others? Sure. I definitely think many readers will find this witchy tale most entertaining.
Now with that said, I'm off to watch The Librarians.
(Update: It was pointed out to me by Sophia Kimble (visitor to my blog) that Maureen actually stated what an m 'n' m was on page 68. I want readers to have accurate information, so I felt this revelation needed to be shared. Sorry for any confusion I might've caused.)
This author's world knows about those with magic blood. Of course as soon as the mortals found out, they destroyed and confiscated as many magical artefacts as they could get their hands on.
Some witches and spell casters still live in hiding, because many are arrested and never seen again.
Carman is a witch but has never been able to cast proper spells. Her mother is paranoid about hiding the fact that they are witches. She works in what is called a library.( not as we know them) In the vault, in the basement are some very powerful magical artefacts. Carman also has someone she loves dying from a wicked spell. She is determined to save them.
Dylan is a mortal with a fascination for all things magical. He works for the Magical Bounty Hunters it's his job to find those who are using illegal magic.
Things are about to change for both of them. The beliefs they had in the way they lived will be challenged, by the magic that surrounds them.
This book is marvellous fun. Lots of humour and hair raising spells. There is a little sex but lots of romance. Our heroine changes a lot during the story, and so does everyone round her. Our hero gets his whole world turned upside down.
This is the first book from this author for me . I will certainly be looking for more.
Carmen is a witch in hiding. She's been on the run with her mother for years but doesn't really understand why. She is bit of a damp squib when it comes to magic. She takes over a librarian job when her friend Abbie goes missing. But the proverbial hits the fan when a sexy magical bounty hunter comes to the library to audit their magical relics!
Carmens life lurches from one crisis to another. Her best friend is under pressure and is becoming more aggressive and threatening to kill her own grandmother, who lets face it is not the nicest person.
Dylan is a mortal and the stated hottie magic buster. But he's not as clean cut as Carmen thinks he is. He needs her magical ability to try and help his mum get over the death of his brother. He soon becomes embroiled in the plans to help Ellie and her gran.
Throw in a magical almost friend being thrown at Carmen as a possible husband and some very deep dark family secrets and this is a fabulous book!!!
A great mix of magic, secrets, family rifts and romance!!! Superb fully formed and lovable characters. Some of whom you will love to hate! I truly hope that there are more stories to come in this series!!!
