This is a short fun read filled with a lot going on in short time. You are never left guessing as to what is going on. Every scene plays a very big part in the telling of this story. There are no fillers at all just a nice clean fun read with meaning, wishes, needs, and love of an old woman who wants to keep her family quilts alive and protected. There is sadness that makes all wish these quilts had been found earlier but the story has lots of meaning bring together people from long ago to the people of the present.
I really loved these characters from Hannah to Audrina their story really touched me. I doubt anyone can read this and not feel the pain, love and the pull from this family. My heart breaks for each of these characters for everything they gain they must lose something. The author leaves you with a mystery of where and who has the quilts. You will find out just how important tracking down the quilts are not only to the museum who needs find away to bring income in if they want to keep the doors open but to the family who the quilts belong to.
I thought this was really well written, I love the mystery as well as the big ending that just broke my heart and made me smile big. I really like that there is still mystery to be found out. This is a great start to an outstanding series. I can’t wait to read them all.
“Quilting was one way to record memories at a time when many women were not permitted to learn to read or write. The quilts were often placed on the laps of the elderly, both to keep them warm and to allow them to travel through the memories the quilt contained.”
The story is uncovering the family secrets that surround the quilts, and their lineage. Why does Hannah feel a connection? As Hannah speaks to the elderly sister of the trunk, she learns more and her college friend, Callum Jones, helps her trace the family. What mystery that is uncovered will shock Hannah, Callum, and Dr. Wagstaff.
I can’t wait to read more in this series as more of these unique family heirloom quilts are uncovered. Each story will be part of this tale. Can Hannah learn more of her own family with the help of Callum?
They go on a hunt basically of talking to people, checking what they find and figuring out what they want to know.
I highly recommend this book, the first of 12 books by different authors in this wonderful series.
Kate Cambridge is also a new to me author and I will look into more of her work.
