I absolutely loves this series. I started out with struck by thunder as it was free. The strong wills between Wyatt and Lei sucked me in from the start. The entire series was very hot, steamy love scenes and the danger behind being the strong men that they are. This book is not for the faint of heart, but for those who love the suspense, drama and strong love this set is the one for you.
While the actual history is related through entirely fictional story lines, the reader can always back up enjoyable reading with historical study, which I actually do. The story lines here contain information leading to a study of inter-racial native-american/caucasian and Chinese/caucasian. While there are no "characters" running around proclaiming the "real american" of blended ancestry, that is the actual sense one gets as the story lines continue. One might think we would be beyond such prejudice but I have good friends of Chinese descent who still face discriminatory comments and certainly anyone of african descent still faces these bigoted attitudes. I don't know anyone of native-american descent but I knew fellows in college (Univ. of Illinois) who were Cheyenne and they said at the time they often ended up in fights. So sad -- so pointless.
After reading dozens of books throughout the year (I am addicted to reading) it's an absolute treat to come to one that is insightful, historic, and just plain good fun. I love the story of the strong alpha males and their beautiful and accomplished females. Kick-butt women are among my favorite in literature characters, with strong men coming in as equal in favor as long as they are also honorable and loving. Are there really men like this -- or women for that matter? Each of us humans contain the germ of greatness and can reach that by constantly striving for our best in each field. Thank you Taylor Lee for this delightful compendium and for the excellent writing that you strove for to give us these four gems. I loved them and will keep them close in my digital library.
Should you read them? Only if you like lots of action, handsome men, beautiful women, strong principles, a bit of bloodshed and fighting, insightful history and lots of "hot" love.
I love this series these are some of the sexiest most dominant alpha males on the planet. I loved the way the author included the racist thoughts and actions of some of the characters in the plots against the heroes. It reminded me of the crap thrown at President Obama in the recent election. I howled with pleasure when the bad guys got trumped. For me character motivation is important to so I liked Wyatt's stand against government corruption and Bai's fight against human trafficing. The sex with Lei and Wyatt and with Bai and Elena was so hot and steamy I would have to take cool off times. Make no mistake Wyatt, Bai, and Wan were extrem ely violent men but so were the bad guys so I did not have a problem with that. Now a little more about Lei and Elena. They both worked hard to become Kung Fu masters and that was good because they needed to be able to protect themselves. Lei had to deal with men who did not want her to develop those skills. She also had to deal with the fact that Wyatt was a sexually dominant horndog. If there was a hole he used it. I am glad that Lei made him have to change his behavior before she married him. Elena's issue with Bai was his need to control. She was wild in some ways and naive in others but under his control she eventually became more sexually avant garde than her parents and they were buck wild. Good job Taylor Lee keep them coming. Five Stars.
Wow! Just Wow! Few author's have evoked the level of emotion and contemplation this series did for me. It is not an easy read, especially book two, but is well worth it. In some ways, emotionally, it reminds me of Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy series. The books need to be read in order and this set is a great way to do that. I have now read everything Taylor Lee has available on Amazon and am impatiently waiting for more. I would put this series at the top of the list.
This is a good "western" and while the Kung Fu is prominant it does not dominate the story. I was a bit worried about the Kung Fu but it was just an interesting part of the storyline. I should have worried more about the very explicit sex passages, which were also very interesting because they were not just "porn." However, the sex becomes part of the storyline and builds intamacy into the relationships that goes very deep... I actually enjoyed that aspect of the story but got very, very bored with all the sex and eventually skipped through it. I liked the box set version because it was long enough to cover several generations and did so very well with lots of twists, turns and (oh yes) new kinds of sex. Great price, too.
After reading these stories I was very much surprised to learn that "Taylor" is a female author. Not to be demeaning in any way it's just that the boldness and explicit violence and sexual content were so masterfully characterized. Being female myself, I wouldn't really know what a true Alpha male is like; not having actually known one in my lifetime. But, I would hope that they are as spectactular as the author portrays them to be. Hot, sexy and strong characters are in each of the stories. I liked the dominance to an extent, although it got a little carried away for my tastes; boarding roughly on minimalizing a person and edging into physical and emotional abuse. It was nice to see that the characters also have a very sensitive and caring side to them as well.
I enjoyed the storylines and give the author a big thumbs up for her creativity, both in the bedroom and out in the field. I laughed, I cried, and yes...I even shuddered.
As implied in my title, these books are not for the weak or narrowminded. They are for those who are not afraid to "boldly go where no others have gone before".
