I have had Psoriasis Arthritis for 45 years! I have used tar shampoos my entire adult life. Since my chemotherapy and surgery in 2019, my psoriasis, arthritis, bone damage, and neuropathy have accelerated. My psoriasis is very bad, with MRSA inflaming it. I can no longer find adequate coal tar shampoos and ointments. The young man who commented that this pine tar shampoo smells bad, does not have a bad skin disease on his scalp, otherwise, anything that works can smell like manure, as long as it works. And if he had a bad enough scalp problem, his wife would be in support of his treatment for his diseased scalp. I read his comment before buying to see only his whinings about smell, lather and consistency. He made no comments about how effective the shampoo was, or if he even had a scalp skin disease or not. Toss his comments in the trash, because he has no bad skin problems stated. I have had tar smells on my scalp for 45 years. I have dated 100's of women and could have cared less about them not liking the smell. I would tell them, that if I didn't use the shampoo, they would be getting dandruff all over them when it got so bad. Furthermore, this shampoo has plenty of lather, once you wash out your hair oils, then reapply it again after rinsing.
Big Pharma has removed adequate tar shampoos from the market, or limited them in coal-tar content, so that the public would still be desperate for their pharmaceuticals, such as SKYRIZI, which may lower the ability of your immune system to fight infections and may increase your risk of infections. I have neuropathy in my feet, so this SKYRIZI would cause me to lose my feet, which are a high-risk status at my Podiatrist.
The smell is okay, subtle. It has a slight chemical smell in my opinion that reminds me a bit of a gun oil, but the smell is so subtle that if you use any other hair product like a gel or pomade, it's completely masked.
The only reason I cannot do a full 5 stars is because the end of the tube, opposite the cap, wasn't completely sealed which left a hole for product to ooze through. When I opened my box, it was all over everything, so maybe some quality control needs to be addressed. I'm sure mine was an exception, so I cannot fault the manufacturer too much.
Above everything, it did as advertised, and I'm extremely satisfied.
Second, I must add this review because I only feel its fair.
I have used pine tar soap - 2 different brands for the past 6 months and LOVE the scent. The 2 different brands I use both smell similar and I was very excited (even though the cost of this product is expensive for quantity received) to find a shampoo that would smell just like the soap.
When I received the shampoo I first opened the squeeze container and noticed a few things.
1) The package was marked with something to the effect of "*contents may be packaged in different containers" on the paper label which I thought was weird... but ok.
2) It looked like and had the consistency of motor oil.
3) It did not sud at all in my hair - and barely "sudded" in my hands before applying.
4) It was difficult to massage into my hair because it had a tar like "sticky" consistency. I actually would massage my head, look at my hands - and they had hair stuck to them...
5) It smells like you stuck your head in a campfire ash pit. I really don't know how else to describe it other than the smell that you smell like when coming in from camping. You normally take a shower to TAKE OFF THAT SCENT....
6) It doesn't wash out... I used it once and my wife was asking what was in my hair later that night - and she asked me not to use it the next evening... When I got in the shower the next evening - my hair got wet and I smelled the smell all over again! Without applying it! I washed my hair with another brand of shampoo (not similar scent at all) and STILL smelled the scent of this afterwards... To add insult to injury, when I got out of the shower - later that night my wife said "so I smell you used that shampoo again...?!!!!"
Anyway, maybe I got a bad batch? Maybe this is item is not genuine? Based off the other 5 star reviews I was planning on being stoked. It was a big let down.
If I vanish... we'll know why and I'll blame the shampoo.
