Originally founded in 1871, Columbian Home Products is the oldest cookware manufacturer in the U.S., famous for producing Porcelain on Steel cookware. Granite Ware has a carbon steel core for strength, conductivity and superior heat distribution. Porcelain is fused to the steel at 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit producing a non-porous, inert glass surface that is naturally non-stick. There are no PTFE’s, PFOA’s or any other chemicals to change the taste, color or nutritional value of the food. Porcelain can chip if dropped, however this does not reduce the effectiveness of the cookware. This 1.5 quart double boiler is perfect for steaming veggies. Not recommended for glass cooktops. Black.

Its porcelain finish (over its metal base) cleans up easily when cleaned promptly. Try not to let food get dried onto it because you don't want to scratch it with serious & rough scrubbing. That will lead to scratches that'll develop rust spots. Should you not be able to clean it out promptly after use, put hot water into the pan covering the remaining stuff and let it soak. It should clean up with just gentle washing after soaking a few hours. Do not immerse the whole pan in water as rust could start up around the edges. Anyone rust problems result from scrubbed abrasively, soaked by immersion or - last but not least - NOT drying the pans thoroughly right after washing them. I've used mine lots, cleaned them properly as stated above, and they look just like they did when I pulled them brand new out of the shipping box!
The damage clearly happened before the product was shipped, because the cardboard box it arrived in was in great condition. I'm very disappointed that the seller would even send a product that was so badly damaged.
There was one final disappointment. When I went to return it, the seller was "out of stock" and I simply was left with no pans. Of course a return of money was provided, but I had to go out and find another set of pans.
What a waste of my time....
I gave this four stars because I had to order a replacement from Amazon. The first box came, and the only thing in the box was the top pan of the boiler. If I got a dead animal in the box, I don't think I would have been more confused by what I was looking at, as it wasn't quite what I ordered. I looked up the product on my Amazon orders page, and sure enough, only 1/3rd of the order arrived. I don't think the packer or anyone is to blame on this, because honestly, it was a pot that looked perfectly serviceable, if you didn't know what it did/went to/looked like.
After running through the process to get the product replaced, my new unit arrived, looking just like the picture, save it was plastic wrapped to keep all the parts together, and all was good.
