Porcelain enamel is the result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a durable vitreous coating on a carbon steel core. It creates a smooth, hard finish that won't burn and resists staining. It's also non -porous so it won't trap odors or food particles and provides a low coefficient of friction, meaning that it cleans up easily and, it is corrosion and chemically resistant so it will last a long time. When fired, the vessel is placed on pins so the bottom and sides are hardened during the firing process into one smooth laminated glass surface. You may notice slight pin indentations where the glass has flowed around the pin that supports the base during firing. The pin marks do not compromise the finish or performance of the vessel. Not recommended for glass cooktops.

I have used it in both the Sun Oven and the regular oven and I have been extremely pleased with how well it performs. It looks very nice, it's well-made, and it cleans very easily and still looks like new.
I was very concerned about purchasing more enamel ware as I have had cheaper enamel ware, and it has not lasted at all. All items of this brand were either returned because they were received with missing spots of enamel on the interior-which QC should have caught and removed from the line, or they were returned to the store before I used them because of anticipated problems. I have two of their Dutch ovens of different sizes on my patio with plants in them. A third one is ready to be drilled out and join them. Both of them lasted less than 3 months. I am not hard on my cooking utensils-I have some things of my mother's, Club Aluminum that's almost 40 years old, and non-stick skillets that are probably over 10 years old and all are in good condition, so it's the quality of this inferior brand that is the problem. The turquoise color did look very nice, though. It added a nice spot of color to my kitchen, and I liked the lightness of the enamel ware as I have arthritis and it's hard to lift heavy, full cooking pots. I still see this brand in the local stores and grocery stores, and now know to avoid it. My first Dutch oven started losing enamel after the third use, and I had not abused it at all. I called their customer service, and they were not at all helpful and said that it was my fault. Given my later experiences, I don't think that it was. The turquoise now adds a bright spot to my patio, but that isn't what I bought them for. I did keep the lids and they do fit some of my cookware that doesn't have lids, so I now have lids and plant pots.
I don't anticipate any of these problems occurring with the Granite Ware. It's heavier and noticeably better made than my previous brand. In addition, their customer service is very good. They answered a question that I had very promptly, very knowledgeably and very nicely as well.

(I have no commercial interest in the products reviewed on this site.)
Other reviewers have noted sharp edges and light weight as deterrents to earning 5 star ratings. While I agree about these shortcomings, they are minor in my view (arguable, of course), when placed in the context of their versatility and efficiency.
I got several items and love em ALL....
ONE thing I am still looking for is a square flat like fry pan to do grilled cheese/hamburgers in.....
If you get these Granite Ware cook ware YOU will NOT be dissapointed...Highly reccomended
Well, everything. :(
-These are LIGHT WEIGHT. Which is absolutely a mistake with a pot you are trying to cook with.
-Spins on the stove when stirring anything in it (hot things mostly...)
-Does not heats up evenly.
-That is why everything burns in the center. (You need more stirring, but cant avoid burn... see above stirring problem)
-Started to rust after 2 months where the handle is attached.
-The edge is unfinished, which is more awful when you add the rusting feature. It can cut your finger if you intend to wash it by hand...
At the end, I have to admit I hate these. Absolute waste of money, and now I'm adding pots to the garbage... Not very sustainable...
I'm getting rid of the last one of my order, all together lasted only 3 months.
