About the Author
Matthew Hagaman is a middle school science and technology teacher and a consultant in the fields of graphic design, web design, and corporate marketing. When asking his students to craft posters, Matthew noticed them struggling with organization, contrast, and visual aesthetics. Since then, he has begun to integrate the principles of design into his technology instruction to help students leverage their skills in art and communication. Matthew earned a B. S. Ed. in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University and is completing an M. S. Ed in Instructional Design and Technology at Western Illinois University and an M. A. in Community Arts at Eastern Illinois University. Kim McHenry is an art educator in Bartonville, Cornell, Graymont, and Normal, IL. While working at four K-8 schools, it has become apparent that students need to better understand how art is related to their core classes. The elements and principles of art can help them communicate visual information more effectively in their core class assignments. Kim earned a B. A. in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and is completing an M. S. in Art Education from Illinois State University.
