In Grave Attraction we meet Adam, a new reaper and Marlena, a shifter. Adam rescues Marlena from a serial killer that is more than he appears to be. The rest of the story spirals from there as the group of reapers team up with some witches to solve two sub mysteries. I loved the mix of paranormal creatures and I love the side story line that Marlena introduced for how she is connected to Adam. I thought that was a great addition to the story and one that I have not seen done in quite this way. Their romance was the highlight of the story for me.
Whether you are an old fan to this series, or completely new to it like I was, I think you will enjoy Grave Attraction. The characters are great, the plot is riveting, and I had a particularly good time reading this book because I know the setting so well. (Grave Attraction is set in Orlando, FL) I loved pointing out the sights and the restaurants that I have eaten at. (and yes, Lori- that is the best Polish restaurant!) I also really enjoyed the mystery of who was tamping down death's powers. I thought it was a fun, scavenger hunt meets detective style journey. I feel like this series would make a great tv show.
Bottom line: if you are a paranormal romance junkie, this is a must read series. Whether you start with book1, 2, 3, or 4 doesn't matter. They each stand alone, but do start this series. I really enjoyed it and I need to go get the other books ASAP.
*Disclaimer- I got a copy of this book for free in exchange for my honest review. I was not compensated for my thoughts.
Adam is a newbie , yes out hero has only been dead four years but he keeps his head down , maintains his cool and helps the departed souls on their way. Sounds a bit dull right? Well all that's about to change when Adam is called to help a soul and can't ignore the woman held prisoner in a basement! Marlena , a shifter was drugged by a serial killer but never expected to suddenly find the means to her freedom so easily. She may not remember how she escaped but one look at the guy in her daughters living room and memories come tumbling back but along with them comes a realisation that Adam is not just a reaper he just happens to be Marlena's lost soul mate!
There are actually several storylines that interconnect here. Obviously there's the romance which I'm afraid for this reader seemed to drag at times . Maybe that's because I was spoiled by loving Dmitri so much in the previous story Grave Vengeance? Certainly Adam comes across as an all round good guy without any real alpha tendencies. Marlena however is a strong character who has survived so much and I enjoyed reading about her although the reincarnation thing didn't really ring true. Secondly the serial killer storyline seemed a little disjointed and then wrapped up very quickly. Yes there are sexy moments in this book but there are also signs that all is not well in the reapers world which brings me to Samuel aka Adams boss! The third arc running through this book concerns Samuel who is undergoing a personal crisis which wasn't completely resolved and I'm left wondering just how that's all going to play out in the next book. I do think this can be read as a standalone but would urge other paranormal readers to start at the beginning with Grave Intentions and enjoy the journey
