Seattle detective meets Seattle psychic

Time: September, Present.My favorite new phrase: Stayawayborhood (a neighborhood you can no longer afford).THE SERIES:Leda Foley owns Foleys Far Fetched Flights of Fancy travel agency in the Columbia City area of Seattle. She’s also a psychic whose abilities are imprecise and unreliable. To hone her skills, she does what she calls Klairvoyant Kareoke at Capitol Hill’s Castaways club. Leda chatters too much when she’s nervous, and drinks too much with her best friend Niki when she feels sorry for herself. She teams up with a skeptical detective to solve Seattle’s strangest mysteries.THIS BOOK:Seattle Police Detective Grady Merritt is a single father of a teenager. After Leda reroutes Grady’s flight based on a feeling (and saves his life), Grady asks her to work with him on a troubling cold case. She discovers he has knowledge of her fiancé Tod’s unsolved death, and agrees to work with him if he helps her solve Tod’s murder. Grady investigates using police procedures, but Leda (and sometimes Niki) interrupt and generally make his investigation harder. But Leda adds helpful clues-when her psychic abilities cooperate.To move the plot forward, author Priest has Leda and Niki play the over-eager amateurs who spill information, and brings in older, wiser Grady to explain police procedure (and rein them in). I enjoyed Leda and Niki’s snarkiness, but found them a bit immature. Priest writes them as millennials, and while they are tech savvy, I’m not sure they have the stereotypical millennial traits: hard working, confident, team oriented. Instead, they cut work frequently to drink, and Leda often feels sorry for herself.If you are from Seattle, you’ll love all the local references as they criss-cross the city chasing a murderer. The concept is clever, and I expect Leda will increase her abilities as the series continues. Priest’s writing style is comfortably easy to read. It’s a solid 3 stars from me.🌵📚💁🏼♀️.
