Graveyard Groove is the first book of it's kind, and delves into the history of horror rock music. Although, to a degree, the book explores some valuable history and presents many facts previously unknown to this reader, I found the book greatly lacking, as the genre of horror rock, and related Halloween music is extremely more vast than is covered by this book, which is more of an essay. Additionally, there were many holes in the information provided and a lack of comprehensive understanding of some facts presented. Frankie Stein And His Ghouls, would be a prime example of this. I do recommend the book, but with caution, as it is a start and not nearly whole or complete.

Good book, well researched. Interesting history of "monster music". I think any one who enjoys Halloween, Rob Zombie or novelty songs would enjoy the book. I don't agree with him on the Song Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon, the song is about a werewolf so to me its a monster song. The two appendix are useful as they list monster songs by title, year, subject and group. Fun quick read and useful guide. Fantastic for helping you to create a great Halloween playlist.

I grew up during the Monster Music boom, so always had it in my childhood life. So, I was always interested in how it started, and where it came from. This book does a great job of explaining the origins and the themes of how this great time in history came into being.

David Acord's Graveyard Groove is a wonderful history and a great resource. Well researched with edifying photos and lists, and a breeze to read, it's a terrific book for people like me who wish every day were Halloween.

If you have even a slight interest in “monster music”, Halloween, pop culture, or rock’n’roll in general, you need this book. The author offers a thorough history of scary music, from the blues artists of the ‘30s to the horror-themed hard rockers of today. From novelty hits (an entire chapter devoted to Monster Mash) to more authentically scary artists, it’s all here. And it even includes an appendix with a lengthy list of monster music songs to aid you in compiling your next Halloween playlist. Highly recommended!
