Wishing for Sequel
on April 6, 2014
I posted this review in a forum, so here it is:
I've played this game for about 20~30 hours, and completed the main story line. All I have left is the Trophy collection which won't take too long if I actually try... But as you know, I'm lazy. So if this review seems short, you know why...
Well, I gotta tell you this first. The art on the cover isn't exactly what the actual game looks like. Meaning, it's not as smooth. The in-game art is a bit more blocky, more like 3D model-ish like MMD.... with a touch of Marvel comics feeling. Why? Because the game concept itself is comic book style!
If you thought I'd rate down for that, you're wrong. I'm actually praising it. They could have made it smoother, but I guess the file size would have been too big if they did that... It IS and open-world game (for the most part).
The art style is cute, at least, for the main character (and a girl named Cyanea). Again, it's no where near "moe" like in anime -- maybe a little-- as its concept is based on comic book style. I love it, it's just that it could have been improved.
Not bad for the most part. It sets nice atmosphere of the game. Not too unique or special though. It's an open-world game (for the most part), so you do have to expect the BGM changing as you move to different city.
I didn't really notice the music where I'd be, WHOA THIS SOUNDS REALLY GOOD!, so... meh. But they sound nice as you just mess around in the game. It just fits nicely as BMG, but it's not really something that'll blow your mind. It's just... nice and pleasant... I'm sorry, I just have limited vocabulary since English isn't my first language... I'm not sure how to describe it exactly.
The story contains a lot of holes-- unexplained parts. I'm still wondering what these "sacred gems" were really for other than protecting the city from gravity storm (i think that's what it was), and what they really do... i don't know if I missed it but it just stopped appearing in the middle and was never really mentioned at all after. But as for those plot holes aside, it's a decent story. It leaves out a lot of hints for you to figure out where the story will go, so it should be easy to follow even if you are lost what to do in the game.
But... If you finish the game... there's really, nothing to do. Kinda like GTA... all you do is mess around, go around places, collect precious gems (for upgrades), and do little challenges... which is just a mini-game.
The story isn't much to talk about as there are many things not really explained. The missions are quite annoying, but it should be easy to get around them after quite a bit of practice and upgrades. Be sure to pay attention to what people talk about. They actually relate to the story later on rather than being some random chat... that surprised me quite a bit.
But as I said, there aren't much to do after main story. If you decide to get 3 DLC explansions (available for purchase in PSN) which include new challenges and costume. Is it worth it? Yes. I bought it, i don't regret it. They aren't great but it just adds some humor in the game play. I'd say, it's a nice touch. It's really better than not getting since it adds new missions and such.
This will be extremely annoying at first. However, it's quite fun once you get used to it. The concept of the gravity shift control would have been too difficult if it wasn't for the gyroscope in PS Vita! Through motion sensor, you can aim more accurately (unless you are in a car, train, or have any unwanted movement). As for Gravity sliding, you might get frustrated A LOT. Think about car racing game with motion sensor. Almost the same, except, when you bump in to some indestructible objects/obstacles in certain way, you'll start fly away in a weird manner. Other than the gravity shifting and sliding, there's not much to talk about in controls. It's quite easy and straight forward.
...I almost forgot, you can pick stuff up with the gravity power and throw them. aiming is kinda ridiculous...
Too short for my taste, and the story doesn't have much impact. However, it should be enough to enjoy it occasionally, like waiting for bus or something. If you like open-world, this is worth trying out. If you like action... maybe, or maybe not. The game really feels like reading a comic book... i just can't stop emphasizing that.
Also, it doesn't have enough villains. Really, there's not much to say about this game once you finish it.
One more thing: this is not in Japanese Voice, but it's in French. It was created in Japan, but it lacks that "Japanese feel," which isn't something really new, but still kinda rare. I thought it was European-made at first until I did some research. As you play through the game, you'll notice that there is hardly anything "Japanese" except for the School Uniform and Maid Costume from DLC...
I recommend it, but only for casual play... for serious gaming, you'd better avoid this unless your'e interested. You don't have to get too serious most of the time during gameplay.
According to some announcements, the game will have sequel... I hope so. The story ends in an ambiguous way, too many holes... it's really obvious the sequel is a must.
