Pure nostalgia. It has been years since I last played an Ace Attorney game and just hearing that typewriter brought pure happiness. This game really heralds you back to the first game, by keeping the gameplay simple. There are no locks to break. There are no mental break downs. This is your basic investigation that follows up with a trial. I will admit the investigation side of things is slightly lacking, which makes sense since the game takes place in Industrial England. I mean, there is not a lot of evidence to find. It appeared to lean more heavily on the testimony. So this is really a plot heavy game. Even to the point that there is an option where you can treat it as a pure visual novel. The game story is broken into 2 parts that are intricately woven. In each part, there are 5 cases that need to be solved. I find them interesting and easy to solve. I had no problem really figuring out the twist to each case. And everything was resolved beautifully at the end.

The animation and graphics are great and the soundtrack is brilliant and so memorable. The characters are different and unique. The extras are really good. The game has a trophy system. There is an art gallery, music and additional story sections. There is a little voice acting but a good grasp of reading is important.

This was definitely worth getting if you are a fan of the Ace Attorney series. Even if you are new to the series, this is so worth playing. Since this is a prequel, you don’t need to know the other games. If you are not a fan of visual novels, this might not be for you. After 65+ hours of gameplay, I can confidently say I LOVE IT! I can’t wait for a sequel.

While not without some minor issues, this game is a great addition to the ace attorney series.

If you've played an ace attorney game before, the first case will be extremely slow, but after that the game comes into its own. The deduction sections are hilarious, and the game stays true to the typical onslaught of nonsensical ace attorney personalities while still proving to be very engaging. I have played every game in the series up until this point, and I was still occasionally guessing whether any individual ace attorney trope was going to be followed or subverted. I loved the decision they made, every time.

The unique setting (Japanese students living in the British Empire) allowed this "reboot" to go in directions that were very engaging. Sometimes other characters are outright hostile to the protagonists, or worse, assume that they are less educated or less knowledgable while trying to be helpful. This had a tiny bit more depth to me than, say, Edgeworth calling Wright a clown. Moreover it allowed the story to take directions not directly seen in (while still similar to) other games in the series.

Gameplay-wise, the investigation sections are well organized so as to not be cumbersome. The deduction sequences are amazing. There is an option to automatically advance text with a button press (for the love of God, turn this on if you are an average-speed reader, as the text is so unbearably slow to scroll otherwise) and you can look back on the history of what's already been said, too. The infamous examples of "Ace Attorney Logic", where one has already figured things out but the right inputs are not really present, are for the most part minimized. Evidence is usually neatly organized and you don't have too much of it at any time, at least in the first few cases. The game has enough built-in tutorial to get new players up to speed, and for those who want to just see the story play out, you can even turn on an autoplay feature. The music is simply wonderful, as is typical of the series.

All in all, this was an excellent reboot / side story. You also simply cannot beat the price point - the content of two full 3DS games for only $40? It was one of the few times I've thought a game I purchased was fairly priced.

This game, as the headline suggests, combines the classic elements of engaging plot and interesting characters with new trial elements that make it still very new and refreshing to old-time fans like me. I can't stress enough how much I grew to love the characters, and the soundtrack really impressed me, very memorable and mood-making.

I am biased towards the series, but I will say that the game does feel slow in the beginning, probably to make sure you understand the new and old game mechanics, but it the story does pick up in the middle and I am thoroughly enjoying the game. Highly recommend, I think you'll enjoy this game even more if you play the trilogy (Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney, etc.) for small humorous references, but you honestly don't need any prior knowledge or experience to play this game!

Edit:
I finished both installments and I love, LOVE the game. My review previously still stands, and I might actually like this more than some of the original games from the trilogy. It's that refreshing, new, the characters and soundtrack are amazing. Highly recommend!!

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles will not disappoint you.

This collection contains both Adventures and Resolve, Nintendo 3DS games that were never released outside of Japan. But their time to shine has arrived thanks to this remastered collection.

In terms of gameplay, it's mostly the same as always. Gather information on investigation scenes, and search the lies on the witnesses testimony to find the culprit in court. But this game adds two new mechanics, the Dance of Deduction and the Summation of Exclamations (they are very intuitive, and explained perfectly by the game itself). I think these sections really add to the experience, and they're fun to play too!
So, Great Ace Attorney Adventures and Resolve are the best games in the series (to me, of course) and, what's important, they're fun!

On top of that, the game includes a ton of special content I really appreciated.

If you're an Ace Attorney fan and you haven't played these games yet, don't miss this opportunity, and get this game. You won't regret it!!
