I loved it because all the recipes were easy for an inexperienced chef, but looked and tasted fabulous! I began cooking dinner for my family once a week. I would plan my menu and give my dad the grocery list and he would stop on the way home from work to get whatever I needed.
Some of my favorite recipes were the honey glazed pork loin and the layered strawberry shortcake. The strawberry shortcake was so beautiful that I began making it for every family function, church dinner, etc. I did this from 9th grade until I was probably 22.
As an adult, I get most of my recipes online. So, a few years ago, in a cleaning frenzy, I threw away all of my cookbooks.
A few weeks ago, for my 40th birthday celebration, I wanted to have foods that had memories attached to them. I chose the layered strawberry cake from this book for my birthday cake and I wanted my 13 year old daughter to make it.
I searched everywhere online for the recipe and didn't want to tell my mom that I had thrown away the book she passed down to me, so I ordered another on Amazon. The cake that my daughter made was absolutely beautiful and she has been busy looking through the book for other recipes to make.
I told my daughter that I was a little sad that I had thrown out the original book and she said, "Who knows, maybe this is the one that you gave away and now you bought it back."
