The Old Bag: (MYTH FMA logo)
I've been using it for about 6 years or so. I was pleased with the value since it was half the cost of similar non-anime messenger bags. Recently, the shoulder strap slide cracked, but didn't break, and some of the pockets are starting to develop holes at the seams. The mesh pockets on the ends are unreliable and mostly torn off at this point, I'll probably cut them off completely simply to make the bag look neater. I plan on repairing the old bag since it's still in good shape, just needs some sewing, and I have a different, more durable shoulder strap that I will be using in place of the old one. The cloth is a stiff/thick canvas that has held up very well. I use the bag everyday to carry my work laptop and papers to, and from work. My laptop is a widescreen Lenovo ThinkPad which is about 14 3/4 x 9 3/4 it barely fits in the old bag. It doesn't see a lot of heavy use; I only carry it from the car to my office and from my office to my car and sometimes when I travel. I think in 6 years I've actually carried it on me for a total of maybe 100-120 miles. (I live in Colorado, so it's been exposed to snow and negative temps in the winter and rain/triple digits in summer) if I didn't get the new bag, I was going to replace the flap velcro with 2 plastic clips to keep it shut. (the velcro is starting to come off and won't keep the flap closed)
The New Bag: (Fighting Messenger bag GE-5526)
It's not a Myth bag, but it is a licensed product. I liked the image on it but couldn't find a lot of detail about the inside other than these reviews. (with no pictures) Even after trying to search images via Google, I still couldn't see a lot of the detail. I decided that for the price and the measurements, I would take a chance on it. Immediately I'm very pleased with the quality and the storage. the graphic is silk-screened and seems like it's on there fairly thick. With exposure to normal heat, I'm sure it will adhere even better into the fabric. It is very substantial and every pocket is a full cloth pocket (no mesh at all!)the pockets on the ends clip shut and are adjustable. the shoulder strap is more ergonomic than the old bag and it attaches to the back side of the bag instead of to the ends. I was skeptical at first, but after loading it up and putting it on, it feels more comfortable and more natural against me. The large main pocket holds my awkward laptop easily with room to spare all around it. the cloth that the bag is made from doesn't seem as stiff as the old bag, and I have a small concern that it is not as durable, but right now I think this is because the fabric is woven much finer than the other bag. (it's 100% Polyester) the flap closes via 2 strips of velcro. I'm debating on replacing this velcro with 2 plastic clips to keep the flap closed, but for now the velcro is working and will be sufficient.
Overall, I'm pleased with the value. It is larger and slightly more expensive than the Myth bags, but it is still less expensive than a regular non-anime messenger bag. It holds everything I need comfortably. I will update this review should I encounter any issues or if the longevity doesn't come close to the Myth bag. I have also uploaded photos of more detail to illustrate my points above. (especially pictures with my laptop both with the old and new bags)
1. The velcro doesn't work well, I often have to press hard on the flaps or slap the thing to make sure it sticks.
2. The bag doesn't hold large books very well, i've had to replace the straps, but I guess that's more my fault for sticking very heavy books inside the thing. Blame my college professors for the books lol.
Other than that the bag looks great and works great, just be careful about the weight of the books you put in the thing.
The art work is not as colorful(more sequoia toned) as I expected but the material that they used for the image seems pretty thick. The shoulder strap feels a little flimsy but I guess a messenger bag is supposed to be light weight. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up to my daily NYC commute over the next six months.
P.S. Not sure if it was an error on their part but they threw in a free Trigun (Vash the Stampede) keychain with my order.
