'We're on holiday in Mexico, not sleepy Dilbury where any of our antics spread around the village like wildfire..'
*Arc Received The second book in this series, and I really enjoyed this much like I did with book 1! Starting off with an overlap in the timeline, with Georgie on the holiday with Abbi ,it is easily read as a standalone, but having read the previous,it made even more sense to me,and with the mishaps, and hilarity had me laughing out loud again. The blurb gives away plenty as to the concept, but there is more and with this, we also get a back story as to how Georgie the dog groomer came to the village, thus meeting Abbi (thanks to Mr Sumo her bulldog). The writing is so descriptive, that you do get drawn in right from the start, and there is not only humor throughout, but some emotional moments, dealing with subjects of anxieties, insecurities, written with sincerity that you feel for the characters, and an Epilogue that is fitting for Georgie and Weston, and I hope we see more of them in the rest of the series.
It’s time to take a trip back to my favorite little town in England called Dilbury Village. The quaint and picturesque town along with its inhabitants will endear themselves to your hearts. I feel as if these characters have become some of my closest friends. What I love most of all, even more than the sweet romances, is the bond of true and most loyal friendships that these amazing women share. Romantic comedies are definitely my first loves when it comes to my books and Charlotte Fallowfield’s insane brand of humor is what has me addicted to her stories and always leaves me craving for more. I simply can’t get enough of this warm-hearted and wildly hilarious series!! I devoured this book and when I finished, I was left feeling the tingly butterflies in my stomach that I get when I absolutely fell in love with the story. Get ready to be swept away by the sweet and touching romance between Georgie Bassett and Weston Argent!
What do I say about The Great Escape? It's one of those books where you never have enough words or the right words for it. I'll admit, Charlotte Fallowfield could write a shopping list and I'd be chomping at the bit to read it. She just *that* talented. Being an author myself, I can only dream of being as amazing as she is. She makes me aspire to be better. This woman may not know it, but along with a couple of other über-talented ladies, she inspires me more and more with every book of hers I read. TGE is no different in that respect. When she brought out her first rom-com, I didn't know what to expect. I p***ed myself laughing frequently. I swear, reading the series could make me need TENA lady. So imagine how excited I was to realise that The Great Escape was coming out and I would get an ARC of it. I was bouncing off the walls from the second it landed on my kindle.
I tried to read this in one sitting, but I was so dang tired and I didn't want to miss any good bits by reading it in that state. So I actually finished it at 12:30am on the day of reading. I got to a certain point and couldn't put it down without knowing how it ended. As always, there was plenty of laughter. But there were also tears. Some of them were tears of happiness, others were of sadness. Whilst the happy ones outweighed the sad, the simple fact is that the sad ones came thick and fast, making it impossible for me to continue reading until I'd dried my eyes and calmed down a bit. I don't think Charlotte meant for it to be that way, it's just that she has this way with words, with sub-plots and plot-twists, that have me all tangled up I knots. My heart was so invested in the story of Georgie Basset.
I'm not here to tell you all about the story. If you're hoping for spoilers, you'll need to look elsewhere. I just want to say how amazing this book is and that everyone...and I mean EVERYONE should read this book, and this series. If you want a laugh a minute, this is your book. If you want something to make you melt and swoon, this is your book. If you need a group of good girlfriends who are there for each other through even some of the most disgusting times, then this is your book. It can be read as a stand alone, but I would suggest reading the previous book first. You'll get to know Abbie and Miller far better that way. I'm telling you now, if I had a Charlie, Daphne and Abbie in my life, I'd be in need of a constant supply of TENA lady. They are amazing. Especially Daphne, in this particular story. Seriously, Turdgate: The Sequel... Oh My God!! Hilarious. That's one reason to read the previous book, you won't quite understand Turdgate without it. And believe me, it's something you will want to understand!
If you're looking for something funnier than Bridget Jones and her granny smackers, something that plays out like a movie in your head, then look no further. This is the series for you. (And I hope one day it gets made into a movie of it's own because it's far funnier than Bridget, no matter what she gets up to.)
I was in a book funk before my ARC of this came along. I couldn't decide what to read. Too many books, too much choice, and none of them appealed to me in that moment. Then Charlotte's PA announced she'd sent the ARCs and I was on it like a bloodhound on a fresh trail. I needed to know what was happening in Dilbury and there was only one way to find out...dive in head first. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. There were many laughs to be had, so many things that you couldn't help but burst into a fit of hysterics like you'd been sucking on laughing gas. There was also a hot AF guy waiting to be discovered... Weston Argent...*swoon* He's hot enough to make your ovaries spontaneously combust as well as your knickers. He's not an open book, he's a man with secrets, but they all cumulate to make him who he is. And I totally adored him, secrets and all.
So if you're looking for something funny, romantic and has the power to transport you elsewhere for a few hours, The Great Escape is for you!
