As scripture says, we cannot erase our sin, change the realty that we are sinners, or do enough good to delete it. God must intervene on our behalf and provide a solution to sin and our condemnation. Enter Jesus Christ and the gospel, or the good news. Jesus and His death and resurrection are God's solution to our sin - Jesus and what He did are God's love on display. Jerry Bridges and Bob Bevington take us through a Bible journey, in both the Old and New Testaments, showing and explaining how Christ's death on the cross is indeed the solution for sin. The title concisely states what Jerry and Bob unpack in their book: the Biblical truth that for God's people, through Jesus, my sin is exchanged for His righteousness.
If you want to see a Biblical panorama of Christ's great atonement this book is for you. It will bring insight into and deep gratitude for Christ and His sacrifice on our behalf.
Read it, buy an extra for a friend, and recommend it often!!
This book is a refreshing departure from the "what would Jesus do?" mind-set that is so prevalet in today's Christian Culture. Bridges and Bevington stress that "we should always look first at what Jesus did as our representative before looking at him as our example."
"The Great Exchange" is a wonderful reference book for those seeking to share the gospel with unbelievers. It outlines objective facts rather than subjective experiences to "prove" that Jesus' primary purpose for coming was die on the cross thereby paying our legal debt for sin.
Bridges and Bevington emphasize that the cross is the "all-encompassing foundation for Christian growth" not just the first step toward spiritual development.
A must read for those interested in developing sound theology and a foundation for sharing the Good News.
