The book is well-organized into sections covering succession planning, development practices, and tips for developing one's own leadership ability. Also included are very practical templates for identifying employees' performance/potential and an individual development plan that can be used in conjunction with your own company's performance review system.
I see this book as being an excellent reference guide for the one-person HR department- someone who is timed-starved and wants access to tried-and-true processes that will help build the skills of their leadership team.
In this e-book, Dan McCarthy of GreatLeadershipbyDan.com has compiled his best posts on leadership development and succession planning to create a "tool kit" of actionable advice you can use to construct a leadership development strategy and produce a succession plan for your company.
"The Great Leadership Development and Succession Planning Kit" is divided into four sections. First, Dan lays the foundation by giving you ammunition to help convince other company leaders of the need for a succession plan. The second section provides tips on identifying high-potential employees and eliminating from consideration those who are unqualified or undesirable.
Part three covers leadership development, with advice on how to write an IDP, develop your own leadership skills, and get better feedback. Section four focuses on leadership skills, with chapters on executive presence, creative thinking, motivation, trust, and other skills that great leaders must master.
In this book, Dan assembles his best posts about leadership development and succession planning and puts them together in a logical order so you can quickly locate the information you need to design and implement a succession plan. You'll find dozens of quick tips that can be implemented easily. This book is a must-have for any leader who cares about the future of his or her company.
