The entire COLUMBIA Records series of "Great Songs of Christmas" contains some of the finest holiday performances ever issued on vinyl. Album Three mixes classical, pop and folk artists in a fine program of famous and obscure holiday songs.

CAROL TRIVIA--
"A la Nanita Nana" may have originated in 18th Century Spain. This traditional carol has since become a lullbye in the Hispanic world. "Panis Angelicus" was written by St. Thomas Aquinas as the penultimate strophe of his "Sacris solemniis." With music by Franck, it has since become a separate hymn. "Snow in the Street (From Far Away We Come to You)" is by composer Vaughan Williams and lyricist William Morris. "The Holly and the Ivy" is a unique carol that mixes Christian and Pagan-- both of these are Pagan fertility symbols, yet the song is also about Mary and her newborn child. "Wassail, Wassail All Over the Town" dates back to the Middle Ages as "Gloucestershire Wassail."

SIDE ONE
O Little Town of Bethlehem - Philadelphia Orchestra w/Eugene Ormandy, cond.
Silent Night - Julie Andrews
O Come All Ye Faithful - Morman Tabernacle Choir

Medley: It Came Upon a Midnight Clear; Away in a Manger - Mitch Miller's orch. & chorus

Again, my parent's had this album and I remember listening to it time after time during Christmas while growing up. I was pleasantly surprised to find that someone had put it on CD. Missing a couple of songs on the CD, but other than that, I'm fondly remembering some of my childhood.
Thanks and I highly recommend this seller!

The Great Songs of Christmas Album Three is a great Christmas album. It is a mixture of songs and instrumentals. The album was put out by Goodyear. Some of the artists included are: Robert Goulet, Julie Andrews and The Christy Minstrels. The only down side to this album is that there are a lot of repeat songs from album two. O Little Town of Bethlehem, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, Joy to the World, O Tannenbaum, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, and the Holly and the Ivy were either played or song by different artists on the last album. This is a must for anybody collection. The Great Songs of Christmas Album Three gets an A+.
