Format: Audio CD
What a treasure of holiday music, "Our Man In Hollywood", left behind for all of his old and new fans to enjoy. Remember most of these were recorded in the mid '60s, I can still see the vinyl album cover, with Hank sitting at the piano as his loving family stand around him singing Christmas Carols.
Typical Mancini flourishes with his distinctive use of instruments like the French horn and bass flute, crisp, bracing, yet unfailingly melodic contribution of a large string sections abound throughout the several medleys on this festive CD.
Bonus tracks appear on this re-issue - "BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE"..."HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS", introduced by Judy Garland from the film "Meet Me In St. Louis"..."WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEW YEAR'S EVE?..."AULD LANG SYNE"...and "SNOWFALL", this delicately wrought tune has a tranquilizing almost mesmerizing effect.
Henry Mancini is no longer with us, but this wonderful collection of holiday music, will be a constant reminder that he was here and made the difference...as you have a "Mancini Moment", listening to "Henry Mancini Greatest Christmas Songs"!

If you enjoy that old, nostalgic sound associated with that traditional Christmas vibe, perhaps you're over 45, this is a must-have in your collection. Bought it last season, and am looking forward to listening every season from here forward, it will be in regular rotation along with Conniff, Sinatra, etc.

Personally, I think it's pretty hard to beat Henry Mancini and his orchestra and singers. Wonderful selections and I really like that there are several medleys on this particular CD for lots of Christmas songs. It will keep a smile on your face!

For mature adults, this is a must-have of the great holiday standards. This one is probably a bit tame for 21st century "younger" listeners who have been battered by enterprises like the Trans Siberian orchestra issues. However, if you're looking for good songs, good arrangements, well-played and properly engineered, add this to your shelf and play it every December.

This is a flawless remaster of an older album, with crisp, clear and detailed sound. One after another, classic Christmas and seasonal selections are presented with Mancini's unique musical arrangements and a pitch perfect group of singers.

I haven't yet run across a purely instrumental album of Mancini Christmas music, but I'd love to find one. I'm literally a life-long fan of his fascinating jazz arrangements, having grown up listening to my parents' albums of Peter Gunn, Mr. Lucky and others.

One of the instrumental numbers that IS included on this album is a delightful performance of "Snowfall", which was previously known to me only from a Skitch Henderson performance included on a 60s era "end cap album" called Winter Serenades. For me that's the highlight of this CD. I could write a very entertaining story about my decades long quest to find and/or reproduce "Winter Serenades". LOL

Highly recommended.
