My grandparents listened to Ramsey Lewis on their hyfi. My grandmother has been missing that record for a few decades now. I was able to get her the CD and she's in love. Thanks.

Ramey Lewis is pop jazz for sure. You probably won't ever read about him in a jazz history textbook, but don't let that fool you. He produced some really good, groovy, swingin' tunes. One of the few "cover artists" who didn't totally murder their material (ahem - Herb Alpert - ahem).
The tracks you "must have" are:
-The In Crowd
-Hang on Sloopy
-Dancing in the Street
-Wade in Water
-Uptight (Everything's Alright)
That being said, the rest of the tracks on the CD are alright.
Sound middle of the road. Being a 1987 release, the full dynamic range is left intact. The overall presentation is a little dull and midrange heavy, though (could be a very good record with better mastering)

Most of the songs are live recordings from Ramsey Lewis Trio's performances at The Bohemian Caverns & The Lighthouse Club. The music is vibrant & their performance is simply brilliant. The energy at the stage and in the room is palpable. I am glad that I got this CD.

I could not believe the clarity and sound quality of this CD. I am so happy with it. I can only hope I don't wear it out from over use, as I did the original LP, in my younger years. If you have an unpleasant or tedious task i.e. scrubbing floors, cleaning your bathroom, tedious, messing task of painting....put this CD in! The work is done and over in no time! My husband had never even heard of Ramsey Lewis, (we are in our 60's) but when this CD arrived. I had to play it right away. He was boppin' and jivin' and dancin' about!!!! Way too much fun! We are young again.

This is the best of all the old remastered music I have ever heard. I can't tell that it wasn't recorded yesterday it's impact is so pure. Even at my advanced age of 78, I want to jump up and gyrate to the music just as I did way back when. The beat is so steady and strong in the trio that even a tone deaf individual could manage to keep time to it. It changes my feelings for the day from passive to active, it renews something in me that I thought was gone, like so many things are gone now. Suddenly I'm alive, alert, active and anxious to see what other good things will happen today.

I had the privilege of attending a Ramsey Lewis concert a few months ago and purchased this CD because I so enjoyed his performance. I love his covers of pop, R&B and gospel songs. Live or recorded, his sound is always elegant, minimalist and straight forward. Now I know why my Dad had so many of his LP's in his collection.

First heard the track 'In Crowd' as a backing track to Nigella's TV cooking program. Its a good CD to have playing in the background that you can dip in and out of.

RAMSEY LEWIS TRIO - The Greatest Hits of Ramsey Lewis

After I had discovered & bought the Ramsey Lewis Trio Christmas CD I wanted 'more' of the RLT fabulous jazz sound & to hear the 'live' versions - yet the crowd don't detract in the slightest & on Sloopy the crowd is fabulous. I feel as if I've really missed out on his music all these years & ever so glad I have now discovered these fine tracks.

Around the end of the 60's The Ramsey Lewis Trio's version of "Wade in the Water" was just about the coolest record in existance. If you liked that and their version of "The In Crowd" you will love this cd with much more in a similar vein

Great Hits !

As a fan of Ramsey Lewis since the 60s, it was a pleasure to hear these tracks again. The interpretation of the hits of that time are really good - and original. They haven't dated and the sound quality is good.
