The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future Hardcover – February 28, 2012

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 248 ratings

Americans are over-regulated and over-taxed. When regulation escalates, the result is an increase in regulators. In other words, bigger government is required to enforce the greater degree of regulation. Bigger government means bigger budgets and higher taxes. More simply doesn't mean better. A perfect example is the entire global warming, climate-change issue, which is an effort to dramatically and hugely increase regulation of each of our lives and business, and to raise our cost of living and taxes. In The Greatest Hoax, Senator James Inhofe will reveal the reasons behind those perpetuating the Hoax of global warming, who is benefiting from the general acceptance of the Hoax and why the premise statements are blatantly and categorically false.

Inhofe's "Greatest Hoax" is a well-written and argued explanation of the global warming hoax as seen from Washington, D. C. It is somewhat biographical as it is focused on his career in politics. But it does so in a logical way that begins with a local battle over relocating a fire escape with the City Engineer in Tulsa, which Inhofe resolves by getting elected Mayor of the City and firing the obstructionist. He follows this with his campaign to eliminate the House's "discharge petition" procedure in the 1970's. Which brings him to finally becoming the sole voice of reason within our Congress at the height of Al Gore's public relations rampage in 2006 and beyond. It is an "inside baseball" type of book, with the subject being the mishandling of the global warming issue by three administrations and our Congress. But this is an important point of view, and understanding all these nuances is critical. Our Congress has spent the last 50 years revising the rules of the game so that accountability is almost impossible. His story of the discharge petition battle makes clear the need to be skeptical of any politician.

On the topic of anthropogenic global warming, and an airborne fertilizer, CO2, the book is authoritative and well sourced. Inhofe has used his staff wisely over the years to research important policy issues, and this is reflected in his knowledge of these issues and the organization he brings to the subject matter. I followed the ClimateGate scandal several years ago thru Technology Review and other sources, but I did not attempt to dig thru this smoldering heap of emails. Inhofe and his staff have done that, and he has some very interesting and cogent descriptions of the malfeasance that was uncovered. For example, Inhofe describes how tree-ring data that did not support a warming trend after 1961 was replaced with temperature data in order to create the Hockey Stick. And this mixing of apples and oranges was applauded as a good "trick" by other global warming "researchers" who needed to mask reality to fit their fantasies. And Inhofe is bipartisan in his criticism of his Congressional colleagues. John McCain and Newt Gingrich receive a few well deserved smacks on the backside for their mindless advocacy of global warming when it was the fashionable thing to do.

This is a great book. It will help future generations understand how the world allowed itself to be flimflammed by some second rate hucksters.

But that isn't all, Inhofe also ventures into the debate over earmarks, and as usual he takes the unpopular side of the argument. In this case, he argues that the administration managed to use the earmark process to funnel billions of dollars into global warming advocacy, and it will continue to do so. When the House voluntarily abandoned earmarks last year, it basically surrendered its only weapon to counter the administration. The complexity of Inhofe's argument convinces me that our popular understanding of the Congressional budgeting process is deficient. I'd like to think that expenditures that are discussed in public forums and voted on, if only in committee, are not earmarks. These are the legitimate stuffing of a Congressional budget. I'd like to think that earmarks are the curious expenditures that show up in the final draft with no public record of prior debate or discussion, leaving the Congress to vote on a bill that encompasses tens or hundreds of billions of dollars of expenditures with a few thousand special favors thrown in amounting to a mere few billion dollars that are considered earmarks. But I must be mistaken. The process is apparently much more obscure or multifaceted than that. In any event, it needs to be uprooted and replaced.

Thirty years ago before "Global Warming", climatology was an interest of mine, and I attended many seminars on the subject. The usual joke at the beginning of each talk was no climatologist should be allowed to create more than one model in his career, since alterations to his original work could amount to nothing more than fitting the model to the data. We've come a long ways in thirty years. By allowing climatologists to create the data needed to fit the model, we've turned an obscure intellectual pursuit into a road to wealth and power that can employ thousands. This also needs to be uprooted and replaced.

Professor Richard Lindzen, is one of the greatest atmospheric physicists, perhaps the greatest. Here is how he began his speech before the UK House of Commons, which was organized on behalf of the Campaign To Repeal the Climate Change Act:

"Stated briefly, I will simply try to clarify what the debate over climate change is really about. It most certainly is not about whether climate is changing: it always is. It is not about whether CO2 is increasing: it clearly is. It is not about whether the increase in CO2, by itself, will lead to some warming: it should. The debate is simply over the matter of how much warming the increase in CO2 can lead to, and the connection of such warming to the innumerable claimed catastrophes. The evidence is that the increase in CO2 will lead to very little warming, and that the connection of this minimal warming (or even significant warming) to the purported catastrophes is also minimal. The arguments on which the catastrophic claims are made are extremely weak - and commonly acknowledged as such. They are sometimes overtly dishonest."

You can read a full version of his speech here. The Bishop has it up here.[...]
Yet, despite the above scientific refutation of AGW by a renowned atmospheric physicist and the weak, rigged and conflicting evidence of AGW , President Obama and his green elite sycophants (including the 1 star reviewers of Inhofe's book) display absolute certainty when it comes to wasting billions tax payer dollars on green energy boondoggles and enacting regulations that will make energy costs "skyrocket" (Obama's words) which will substantially lower our standard of living. Their belief in flawed computer models and rejection of real world data and scientific rationality, overcoming reason and evidence, has been remarkable. Moreover the green elites modus operandi is to severely punish any dissent (such as their smears against Inhofe) and a willingness to ignore normal ethical constraints as evidenced by the Fakegate and Climategate scandals. They indulge themselves in self-stimulated proclamations of superior morality when it comes to their worship of mother earth and mocking of Christian values. Rivaling the extremes of religious fundamentalism the climate alarmists in government and in academia are well paid and sit on their high horse severely judging the so called greed in the private sector. When the time comes for assessment of responsibility for the decline of the US, it would be a shame if the proponents of this anti-western industrial civilization ideology in academia, government and environmentalism did not finally receive the recognition they so justly deserve. Thank God for Senator Inhofe a brave and honorable spokesman for truth and sanity in government. Read his book and learn the truth about AGW and be glad you no longer have to fear that the gas,CO2, that makes plants green and is the basis for all life on earth will destroy the earth.

a. Emphatic Blow To CO2 Warmists - New Study Shows A Clear Millennial Solar Impact Throughout Holocene

By P Gosselin on2. März 2012

A new paper titled High-resolution sea surface reconstructions off Cape Hatteras over the last 10 ka appearing just recently in the AGU Paleoceanography Journal authored by Caroline Cléroux et al provides further, clear evidence of a major solar impact on climate during the Holocene. Hat/tip: [...]

Die kalte Sonne site:

"The new findings once again clearly underscore that the last several thousands of years are characterized by natural temperature cycles that are controlled by fluctuations in solar activity (see p. 68-75 in `Die kalte Sonne'). The logical continuation of these natural cycles through today shows that an important part of the warming of the last 150 years has to be attributed to the increase in solar activity. It is not a mere coincidence that the last decades have been the most solar active of the last 10,000 years.

The climate models used by the IPCC are not able to reproduce these millennial cycles because they assign only a very small climate impact to the sun. Also the recently introduced new climate model from the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg suffers from the same deficiency, and thus the results of that model are essentially unrealistic."

b.Climatologist says global warming is bunk

By Dan Bain KPIC News Published: Feb 23, 2012 at 9:00 PM PST Last Updated: Feb 24, 2012 at 10:26 AM PST

Taylor spoke to the Douglas Timber Operators Thursday morning, and says the alarmists who claim the statistics show the earth is warming are using only the part of the data that supports their decision.

He says if you look at the bigger picture, the climate goes in cycles and there is virtually no trend at all. "When you start a trend on the snowiest year on record, and when we're en route through a dry period that was really a drought, but you know if you show the whole data set you don't see any trend."

Taylor says the data also shows that there is also no obvious trend in severe weather patterns increasing. "There's busy years, there are quiet years, is there any trend over time? Wow, if there is, I'm sure not seeing it," he said.

Taylor is a professor at Oregon State University and was the State Climatologist before a disagreement with Governor Kulongoski.

c.How GISS Has Totally Corrupted Reykjavik's Temperatures

January 25, 2012tags: GHCN, GISS, IcelandBy Paul Homewood

Now that GHCN have created a false warming trend in Iceland and Greenland , and GISS have amended every single temperature record on their database for Reykjavik going back to 1901 (except for 2010 and 2011), we should have a look at the overall effect.

d. The Cold Sun: Why The Climate Catastrophe Won't Happen
Wednesday, 08 February 2012 16:01 Norbert Lossau, Die Welt
E-mail Print PDF

For years he promulgated the IPCC's key message. Now, the former environment senator and manager Fritz Vahrenholt has had a change of heart. In this interview, he explains his change of opinion.

In his new book "The Cold Sun. Why the climate catastrophe will not happen," Professor Fritz Vahrenholt, former environment senator and CEO of RWE Innogy, outlines his thesis that global warming will be significantly less substantial than previously thought. By the end of the century, he believes, there will be just an increase of one degree Celsius. The influence of the sun on the Earth's climate, however, has been significantly underestimated until now.

Welt Online: You have supported the IPCC's paradigm for many years. Now you are publishing a book in which you questioned the doctrine of global climate change. How did this change of heart happen?

Vahrenholt: Yes, I was an active supporter of the CO2 theory. But then I had two pivotal moments that have inspired me to reassess my position.

First, I was invited in February 2010 as a scientific reviewer for the IPCC report on renewable energy in Washington. There, I realized that the drafting of the report was done in anything but a scientific manner. The report is littered with errors. At the end, representatives of Greenpeace edited the final version. The result was the nonsensical claim that 80 percent of total world energy needs can be met with renewable energy.

These developments shocked me. I thought, if such things can happen in this report, then they might happen in other IPCC reports too. Of the 34 members of the IPCC Secretariat, the bulk are from the global South - such as Cuba, Sudan, Madagascar, Iran or China. These countries all have an interest in transfer payments. Until then, I had thought researchers would meet and discuss. No, in fact these are delegates representing nation states - and not always democratic ones. They represent interests and exert influence.

Welt Online: And the second key experience?

Vahrenholt: At RWE Innogy, we were confronted with the fact that the wind and the corresponding power generation were dipping by an appreciable extent. I investigated this phenomenon scientifically and found that it has nothing to do with CO2 and global warming, but that natural climate processes are responsible for it. The activity of the sun plays a major role. I have been working on the subject matter and then worked a year on this book.

Fantastic book, it clearly shows how radical environmentalism and hard core environmentalists want to take over world governance by any means possible, foul or fair, and as this book shows - mainly foul. I've witnessed this scam building over the past thirty years or so, and to claim , as the alarmists have that for billions upon billions of years, ice ages, tropical climates, back to ice ages, back to temperate, back to ice ages again over hundreds of thousands of times was down to mother nature, and yet the last 'THIRTY' years - man. It's a whopper.

The other really annoying thing is the selfishness and arrogance of the alarmists who don't care what the majority think. Very recent polls worldwide reveal that the majority of people do not believe the hoax, and further to that, are much more concerned about the longest recession in a century, how they can afford to put food on the table, and how they can afford to heat their homes after having to fund the expensive and useless green energy fantasy. I know all about this. I live in the UK where our Utility bills have risen by over 150% over the past decade in the 'rush to green'. How would the Americans feel if their Utility bills suddenly rose to $3500 to 4000 per annum? Or how would they feel paying $7 - 8 per gallon? Well, I can tell you, if Obama follows the GEF, that's what you'll all be paying.

In the recent UK elections, the Green party polled one million votes out of thirty three million. The Green party are the voice of environmental democracy. UKIP who promised to scrap all green taxes and the stupid climate change act which costs the UK $30 billion per year polled two million more at three million votes. So why, when alarmist parties are so unpopular with the majority of voters and cannot win enough votes to become elected are they pulling the strings behind the scenes undemocratically? It's not on and must be stopped at all costs.

Senator Inhof is a courageous man who dares to stand up for what is right and truthful when it is politically incorrect to do so. We depend on people like him for our freedom, no less! His forthrightness makes him a hate figure for some but he has battled on and is now no longer alone. Here he has pointed out the dangers of what is afoot both in America and beyond.
The book is a good read as well as informative and should at least get you thinking.
