As to the characters, DI Scott had a bit more "flesh" on him than the others. At least I was partly able to get somewhat of a mental image of him.As for the others in the book, I would probably have to re-read it to be able to come up with a description of them. In other words, they were fairly forgetable. Nothing was really tied together very well. All three victims were found with money stuffed into their mouths. The reason for this was never quite clear or really seemed to make sense. When the murderer is finally caught, it's all rather anti-climatic.
On the plus side, the author is a fairly good writer as far as being able to construct coherent sentences and believable dialogue. He also takes care to describe the scenery and surroundings so the reader can get a "feel" for the location of the events. I also appreciated the fact that there wasn't any gratuitous sex scenes thrown into the mix to pad the book. There is a bit of a love interest for DI Scott, but thankfully we did not have to slog through a sex act. Those just get so OLD after being included in so many books!
On the down side, there were far too many typographical and grammatical errors. For example, when the author is describing a character in the book he writes that he is "tall at five feet seven inches tall." A bit repetitive. Most of the errors were missing or improperly inserted words and typos.
When a writer sits down and pours himself into a book and wants to receive public accolades (and an income) from his work, then he should take care to make sure it is very well proof-read. This book wasn't.
In summary, this was not a bad book, but it was not a great one. The author had a good idea for the plot, but wasn't able to get that idea fleshed out enough. The ending seemed very anti-climatic.
