Think wind, solar, and batteries can replace the hydrocarbon fuels that power our modern industrialized society? Green Breakdown shows why the Net Zero agenda―a forced transition to renewable energy―is costly, dangerous, and destined for failure. Using science, economics, and in-depth analysis, Steve Goreham exposes the weaknesses in the planned green energy transition and predicts a coming renewable energy failure.

Green Breakdown is a complete discussion of all facets of the proposed green energy transition, including hydrocarbon and renewable energy, biofuels, power plants, home appliances, electric vehicles, ships, airlines, heavy industry, carbon capture and storage, and the hydrogen economy. Goreham uses color charts and graphs, and references to numerous studies to support his arguments. At the same time, his large collection of cartoons, colorful images, and quotes grabs the reader's interest.

Green Breakdown is essential reading for anyone wishing to understand the truth about energy production, energy use, and policies related to climate change.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Steve Goreham's latest book, Green Breakdown, is masterful. He has few peers when it comes to connecting dots and explaining complex energy, environmental, economic, and climate issues in ways that high school students (and even judges, regulators, and legislators) can readily understand. Think wind, solar, and battery energy can replace the fossil fuels that power industrialized societies? Goreham explains why it's not possible, certainly not without disrupting and destroying the Earth we love with mines, processing plants, and industrial installations unprecedented in human history." - Paul Driessen, Senior Energy Policy Analyst for Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, Author

"Policy makers, business and industry leaders, and everyday citizens must read this book as soon as it comes out. Green Breakdown is filled with wonderful editorial cartoons and sidebars about crazy energy schemes 'to help save the planet.' If you only read one book this year, this must be it!" - Dr. Jay Lehr and Tom Harris, International Climate Science Coalition

"Green Breakdown is a must read for anyone looking to uncover the truth about energy production, energy use, and policies related to climate change. Steve Goreham presents an in-depth yet easily understandable examination and explanation of all components of energy, environment, and climate policy. This is a book that just begs to be given to young adults seeking a beacon to guide their efforts to make the world a better place." - James Taylor, J. D., President, The Heartland Institute

"I love reading Steve Goreham's articles and books about climate issues. He has a unique ability to describe clearly the complex economic and technological issues involved and to do so in a way that offers important insights into the likely consequences if current trends continue. He makes an invaluable addition to the public's demand for more realism in climate policy." --Robert Lyman, Economist, Principal at ENTRANS Policy Research Group

"In this clearly written, well researched book, Steve Goreham debunks climate catastrophism and explains why the so-called Net Zero agenda―a forced march to an all-renewables plus battery-storage energy system―is costly, dangerous, and doomed to fail. Citizens who want to more effectively engage in the critical debate over America's energy future should read this book." - Marlo Lewis, Jr., Ph.D., Senior Fellow, Competitive Enterprise Institute

"Steve Goreham's book, Green Breakdown, shows that our fossil fuels have created the miracle of modern transportation and provide most of our reliable electricity which enabled our enormous increase of wealth over the last 100 years. The book shows that the false ideology of climate catastrophe has put reliable energy under attack. The benefits of CO2 fertilization exceed all harmful effects of warming due to greenhouse gas emissions. Green Breakdown shows that Net Zero policies will be enormously harmful to civilization because wind and solar power are environmentally harmful and can't be made reliable by any cost-effective method. Capturing CO2 would be enormously expensive. The book is entertaining and easy to read, is jam packed with facts and great graphics, presents comical failed predictions and makes a mockery of many green energy proposals." - Ken Gregory, B.AppSc., P.Eng., Director, Friends of Science

"Green Breakdown guides us through the myriad issues associated with energy policies, as well as the issues in the hyper-politicized scientific debates around climate change. Writing a book about energy policies is a tough task precisely because there is so much ground to cover and because so much of what's important is inherently technical and has become hyper-politicized. Steve Goreham is up to that challenge." - Mark P. Mills, Senior Fellow, Manhattan Institute

"Green Breakdown, Steve Goreham's latest, continues his tradition of using superior organization, glossy graphics, and key quotations to expose the corrupt underbelly of climate alarmism and the forced energy transformation. Recommended for general audiences." --Robert Bradley, Jr., PhD, CEO and Founder, Institute for Energy Research, Author

I've now read over 50 books in last several years about energy and climate. It's sort of a hobby of mine. I like to read so many books countering the daily news narratives about climate change because I think it's a very important issue of our time. Each book I read has a little different view point and a more interesting details on the issue. This book is no different in that regard. I enjoyed it very much. This book, like others, exposes the stupidity (my words) of the climate agenda in so many ways. I find it so sad and dangerous that much of the western world (especially) seeks to destroy a reliable and efficient method to obtain energy (fossil fuels) with so-called green alternatives. It's been very clear to me as an engineer from the start that the green alternatives are neither green nor have any chance of replacing fossil fuels. This book is up to date and recently published so I would recommend it as an excellent place to start your own study about the climate issue.

This book tracks our civilization's meteoric ride upwards over the past few hundred years and then contrasts that progress with recent developments. The developed world has wasted trillions of dollars of investment in the green energy transition with little to show for it. Steve's conclusion is inescapable and his arguments are easy to follow.

This book is written from a very biased point of view and is essentially a contrarian rant!

There are some good points and arguments made in this book. There are also gaffes, cherry-picked data, and purposefully omitted and misrepresented arguments from the 'other' side.

My favorite is the graph of the holocene conundrum... if you read the fine print, 'today' on the graph is from 1995. Guess why they didn't include 1996-2020 on the graph? Give me a break... (this is just one of many misguiding facts/visuals in the book).

Please take the time to read Unsettled, or another somewhat unbiased book on the topic. Maybe even consider reading a slightly green or pro-carbon book, but not one that supports the 'side' you lean toward.

Climate is changing, it always has. But, its underlying causes are likely different now than in the past. The resulting trends are worth observing and considering in light of the knowledge we've accumulated in recent history. It might even be worth doing something about (for future humans' sakes).

Mr P J Harris
5.0 out of 5 stars rational, hard headed, intelligent, direct
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 11, 2024
The tragedy of this book is that policymakers are well aware of the facts presented and the clear, even obvious conclusions that arise. They just aren’t prepared to admit them and are quite happy to court acceptance by maintaining the fiction that net zero can be achieved in any meaningful time frame. This book lays out starkly the reasons why this is delusional. Many of the objections can be dismissed by the green movement but the stark reality of lack of electricity and rising unaffordable costs cannot, as is strongly detailed in the chapter on the inflation crisis. Highly recommended, even if you disagree with much of the assessment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant exposé on the stupidity and impossibility of the Net Zero madness
Reviewed in Australia on October 20, 2023
This book forensically explores the philosophy behind the “climate madness” of Net Zero and all it entails, covering the impracticability of EVs, intermittent wind and solar energy and why this move to “control the climate” is unwise, impossible, unnecessary and will eventually fail, but not before bringing western civilisation to its knees.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another reality check fact book....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 21, 2024
Now I have read 20 plus books on the Climate Swindle. After investing over 1000 hours up to date on thus topic its bizarre how the lies and corruption is still going on today. This book shows very clearly the reality of the green agenda. How utterly REDICULOUS it is from a physics point of view. It's an excellent book. One of 50 I have on thus topic. The takeaway message is we should be not only massively great full for oil and C02 but the technology era we are living in that uses and needs desperately cheap energy. An excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pursuing the wrong direction
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 30, 2023
He is correct we are going in the wrong direction and should be concentrating our resources and budgets on being less wasteful with our planets resources, the chase for the use of renewables is going to make a small number of people wealthy and a large number of the worlds population very poor all for the misconception that CO2 is going to destroy the world.
A good read with plenty of information and examples of renewable folly.
