I can only join in the many other reviews that highly recommend this book. It has everything you need to know about keeping iguanas including great advice on the "Ultimate Substrate" that I am using now. Combined with information from the Green Iguana Society I can't imagine that any question about pet iguanas would go unanswered. Just as important it shows these animals as having the potential to become friendly and endearing pets with a real personality. So if you are thinking about getting an iguana read this book, preferably before you acquire one.
From a food-pyramid, health troubleshooting, to environment/mental stimulation tips, Hatfield covers it all! Plus, the index is very comprehensive, the quotes show you real-life testimonials on what to do and not to do as an iguana owner, and the author makes available his direct advice on your iguana issues by disclosing his address in the back of the book. Upon finishing veterinarian school, I will without a doubt recommend this invaluable resource to all my clients to ensure their pet lives up to the personable, inquisitive, and cat-like (mine follows laser beams) personality of the domestic iguana.
With more in-depth discussion on important topics, and with the omission of anecdotal insertions, this book would become the bible of iguana care and biology. The author is quite correct when he asserts that iguanas are difficult to take care of. That is why he needs to spend more time on treating the topics in more depth.
