Of the titles of the New 52, most of the Batman and Green Lantern stories carried over without much change of the previous storylines. This makes it where plot points carry over in the N52, making some of the information somewhat difficult for new readers. Green Lantern Corp is no exception. But the thing is GLC has almost always been a stand-alone series from the main GL title, so it's never been too keen on keeping up with the story lines in the DC Universe. And that's a good thing, both for new and old readers.

GREEN LANTERN CORP VOL.1: FEARSOME collects issues #1-7 and picks up right after the end of War of the Green Lanterns: Aftermath (Green Lantern Corps). Guy Gardner and John Stewart are trying to live out normal lives on Earth away from GL work affairs. They called back into space when a race of beings commits genocide to an entire planet. Looking to see who did it, was an entire group of beings named The Keepers who want to kill all of the guardians, as well as the GL Corp. But these beings aren't quite like other opponents before them. The Keepers are made of Will power; the same power the green lanterns use. This is going to get ugly...

Peter Tomasi returns as main writer for GLC and its one heck of an action packed, what's-going-to-happen-next, sort of ride. There are plenty of plot twist and backgrounds to read about (even a really good cameo from a certain being) that if you're a continuing reader of GLC from before, you're in for some familiar and fun work. And for new readers, you can jump right into this title without knowing anything about this series.

I've read ALL the works of Tomasi for "Green Lantern Corps" and I'm yet to read one where Tomasi has NOT enthralled readers with exciting , thrilling and nail-biting adventures of the GL corps. Tomasi was born to write GLC. The way he handles the characters, the plots..it's just amazing. And though , it's always the Corps versus some or the other alien creatures but still each time it's different, each time it's ..mind-blowing.
I would not talk anything about the story in this book. The reason being that, if you read this book without ANY prior knowledge of what this book contains, you'll get the maximum enjoyment! I was one of those lucky ones!
Tomasi has introduced a LOT of new (and appealing) characters in this book. He's also toned-down Guy Gardener's character a bit. He doesn't seem as arrogant and over-enthusiastic as before, which is good. I never used to like Gardener much, but in this book, I think Tomasi has perfected the character, made him better.
Frenardo Pasarin, the penciller for most of the issues, simply excels. He continues the brilliant work he did in "Emerald Warriors". Two issues are pencilled by Borges and St. Aubin respectively, but they have done more-than-decent job. In fact, it's almost impossible to make out that the difference in artwork as you read through the book! I would also like to applaud the inker (Scott Hanna) and colorist (Eltaeb) for doing a remarkable job! Each panel is a visual delight! The colors are one of the main reasons for making this book a masterpiece.
One small gripe I have with the story is that some of my favourite Lanterns like Arisia and Soranik Natu are nowhere to be seen. Also, Kilowog has a very small role.

This volume collects Green Lantern Corps #1-7 of the DC New 52.

The Green Lantern Corps pick remarkable sentient beings throughout the galaxy. They receive a green ring that is fueled by the emotion of willpower (not really sure if will is an emotion but it is worth overlooking to just get immersed in this amazing universe) 3600 sectors two per sector so 7200 lanterns always serving, when one dies another gets the ring.

Earth's sector's representatives, (yeah there are more than two representing earth but it is a long story) main representatives, are Guy Gardner and John Stewart. They have a lot of baggage and grudges towards their bosses, the "self appointed" Guardians of the Universe. Guy and John soldier on out of duty to the corps, their brothers and sisters in will, and the innocent lives across the universe. Things heat up as Green Lanterns are being executed and worlds are being drained of natural resources leaving organic life dead. Guy, John, and a few other Corps members investigate to find The Keepers a band of fanatics with the ability to harvest willpower of their own and thirst for vengeance against the Green Lantern Corps.

Some background. Not necessary to the review: Peter J. Tomasi is back on writing Green Lantern Corps and I for one could not be happier! I got into the Green Lantern mythos a few years ago via Geoff Johns and Green Lantern: Rebirth. Great starting point. A new Green Lantern series began and so did a resonance for this niche of the DC universe. Green Lantern Corps followed first written primarily by Dave Gibbons (artist co-plotter of The Watchman fame) with a few guest writers.
