Product Description

Green Toys Tugboat

Embark on a cruise across the bathtub. Navigate the wading pool. Even splash around in the occasional mud puddle. There’s no end to the Good Green Fun young sailors can have with the Green Toys Tugboat. Made in the USA from 100% recycled plastic, this trusty tugboat is both good for the Earth, and – most importantly – safe for the busy little folks who play there. Available in three different color combinations: yellow, blue, and red. Recommended for ages 6 months and up.

Green Toys Tugboat
The handle on the back is great for swooshing the Tugboat around in the water, and also helps pour water out of the front spout.
Green Toys Save Energy
Recycled plastic versus virgin plastic saves tremendous amounts of energy.
Classic Tugboat Made from 100% Recycled Milk Jugs

The molded detailing on the front of the 100% recycled plastic Green Toys Tugboat wheelhouse features the lettering “S. S. Green Toys,” along with a ladder, life preserver, anchor, lights, and horns. There are also five windows through which you can see the captain’s seat and steering wheel. The deck has simulated cargo net under the arching handle, which, when the boat is submerged, allows the hull to fill with water that then pours out the front spout.

Scoop and Pour Fun

This colorful yellow, red, and blue boat floats great, making it the perfect toy for water play in the tub, the pool, and even at the beach. It has a handle from the wheelhouse to the back deck and a wide-mouth spout at the front to scoop and pour water. Kids love making waterfalls out of the spout, while parents love that it makes bath time (especially hair washing!) fun and enjoyable.

Old-Fashioned Fun that's Made in the USA

Like all Green Toys products, the Tugboat is manufactured in the USA with a tight, local supply chain that minimizes the carbon footprint and supports the domestic economy. Here is a perfect example of a simple toy of multiple uses. I first ordered this cute little tug because my 15 month old daughter didn't have many tub toys . . . or rather, almost all of her tub toys, with the exception of a trio of duckies, were from my kitchen and I was starting to need some of them back! The price was reasonable, and I really liked the fact that it was made from recycled materials and didn't contain any BPA. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by just how large it was (comparable to a kid's watering can); I knew that it had a spout so that one could pour the water from it, but now I began to get my hopes up: oh, could this possibly be the solution to the horror that is hairwashing night at our house?

Just so you understand how horrible hairwashing can be, my daughter has, pretty much from birth, screamed while getting her hair washed (as in, blood-curdling, get-a-mother's-heart-racing, thank-goodness-the-neighbors-are-an-acre-away-and-so-hopefully-can't-hear-this-when-the-windows-are-open SCREAMS); she does not like getting her hair washed, oh no she does not. At this point, I was pretty much using a plastic takeout container of water to try to get the rinsing done as quickly as possible. While looking at the cute red tug boat, however, I began to think "hmmm, it holds more water than the takeout container, which could make it an even faster job, but it's also got that spout and a handle, so it should be easier to control and aim . . . plus it's cute and brightly colored - could be distratcting!" I let her play with the tug during the next couple (non-hairwashing) baths - after all, I didn't want her to necessarily associate it with hairwashing and start hating the poor thing!

This is a great toy and works well pouring water for hair washing. I wish it was harder to capsize. As everyone has noticed it's both prone to mold growing inside and near impossible to open. Tonight I finally cracked it after discovering mold in ours.

The top deck is held on by three screws. Two are accessible through the front two windows with a #1 Phillips screwdriver that is at least 2.5" long. The third is under the back of the handle and requires drilling a hole to access. The plastic is soft enough that I was able to use a screwdriver with some pressure. I am posting photos in the review section shortly. For the two screws in the cabin there is only one exact path in, high and on the outside.

Take care not to dislodge the two cabin screws as they are difficult to place back in their holes.

I am glad to see that their Ferry comes apart with just four easy to pop tabs.

We purchased this tug boat for our almost three year old daughter and 18 month old son. It met and greatly exceeded our expectations. The front has a spout which you may not be able to clearly identify in the pictures. The back has a handle, and it doesn't take a two year old to see that this will make for some pouring during bath time. :-)

Best of all, it's super-durable and actually floats, even after it's taken on some water. We were looking at an Elmo themed boat before we bought this one, but absurdly the other toy didn't float in the bath tub!

Also worth noting: No sharp edges or points, and despite the handle I've seen no use as a bludgeoning object on the part of our daughter, who typically manages to weaponize everything she encounters. She has, however, used it to help wash her brother's hair, which is both adorable and efficient.

Additionally, this is made in an "Earth-Friendly" way, which really appeals to my wife who actually cares about the planet she lives on. Er... and me too, of course. Go green.

Final thoughts: I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if you were to only buy one bath toy, this would be it. You could sail it around, sink it, pour water out, and even have your wash-cloth ride on it. Also, it's pretty inexpensive, weighing in around twelve bucks when we got it, and if you were only buying one bath toy I'd assume you were operating on a tight budget, which makes this tug-boat a good fit in many ways.

Bought this for my 18 month old to use in the bathtub. I really thought it was like 5" but when it came, I was pleasantly surprised by the size! It floats well, it's fun to dunk it in the water and pour it out. The toy is well made and somehow faintly reminds me of its past life as a milk jug! And LOVE the fact it's safe and made in the US!

Loved this boat at first, and my daughter has used in every bath, UNTIL -- I decided to put a cotton swab in to see how clean the interior was.
BLACK MOLD everywhere -- I tried to take the boat apart to clean it, but it does not come apart easily (at all, for me -- will need to break to take apart, I think). I plan to soak it in a bath of bleach and see if that will make it workable for a while longer, if likely less colorful. Disappointing major design flaw from an otherwise wonderful company!

This tug boat is great. It is sturdy and it does what a toy tug boat does...it floats. The only thing I would have added to this toy to make it a 5 stars, is the ability to undo the bottom part in order to wash it thoroughly to avoid gunky build up. Hasn't happened yet but I'm sure like all other bath toys, it will happen.
