These start my wood stove with easy long lasting squares. On my second box. I start fires often and these are better than newspaper or small branches, make little to no ash (Like newspaper ). I used these last year and they were different than the ones I received this winter. This year's squares did not start as easy as the box I bought last season. These blocks are bigger but some blocks take a while to catch with a fire lighter. Last year they started very fast, not requiring much lighter fluid. Still a good starter.

I don't understand all the negative reviews. This product is exactly as advertised.

First of all, I received a box of, what look like (I didn't count them), about 160 little rectangular bricks, and I didn't need to break anything. They're, if it were candy, bite-sized.

One--let me repeat that--one (!) is enough to light a fire with one--let me repeat that--one (!) match. If you need more bricks or more matches, I suggest you work on your fire-making skills and stop blaming this product.

I've always been able to light a fire with one match and some paper and kindling. The only reason I got these is because I recently got a fireplace insert with a catlytic combuster, and, apparently, it is better not to use any paper with ink on it or treated paper with those.

It lights immediately, it holds a flame a few minutes (I didn't time it) and long enough to light kindling, and thereby get the fire going.

A possible (likely?) explanation for the negative reviews is that, and I see this with my neighbors, people continue to believe you do not need to season firewood or think it's a good idea to use colored newspaper or cardboard as kindling.

It does its job. If it doesn't for you, look up some youtube videos on how to light a fire.
