My wife and I wanted a mower that wasn't as loud and noisy as a gas mower, didn't require burning oil, and didn't vibrate as much. This mower fulfilled all of our wishes. We have a 1/3 acre lot, and this mower with two batteries works just fine. The only time we need to recharge the batteries half way through mowing is when we wait way too long between mowings, and the motors need to do some extra work to chop down the tall weeds. This mower is fairly easy to push, since it is much lighter weight than a gas mower. We also bought the electric trimmer that uses the same battery system, so we were sure to buy that kit with an extra charger and battery. Sometimes we use the extra battery, but it is nice to have just in case. Overall, I would buy this again and am quite satisfied.
Still using this mower all the time, and it still works great. I've taken to only using one battery at a time, and keeping the other on the charger while mowing. Not sure it makes a difference, but I like it anyway to take a little break while mowing to switch batteries. When done mowing, I do tip the mower on its side and clean the underside. Some more expensive mowers have a water hose attachment to clean the underside, but I'm not sure I would spray water into the motor on this unit. :-) Using a stick works just as well, and seems to keep things working better.
So, I may have let the lawn go a little. I ignored the grass for a few weeks thanks to overtime at work, family matters, and just generally being lazy when I got home. The grass in the back yard made it up to a good 8-10" tall. I thought for sure I would need a gas mower to power through that. Sure enough, my battery powered greed thing powered through it. Sure, I had to empty the silly bag way more often than I wanted (I never mulch), but the mower never stopped mowing because it was too thick. I'm still impressed, and still happy. Only thing I'm looking for is a grinder to sharpen the blades. Apparently a set of two replacement blades cost less than a "jackson" on Amazon with Prime shipping. I've found if I wait until the afternoon to mow when the grass is more dry, there is no need to clean the underside of the mower. Still 100% satisfied with this device, and 100% recommended.
Greenworks must only train their customer support on that ONE cable as a solution, that was the only response i got from the company both on the phone and on email.
If you're 25302 suddenly stops working, replace the power switch board (part # 36202486-1 $4.92 at ordertree.com), that's what fixed mine. Don't bother calling greenworks, unless your cable really is the culprit. i also ordered the switch just as a precaution ( part # 36301289).
Now I'm mowing again, yay!
Comparing this to large mowers costing double is unfair; it is not engineered for that kind of performance. It cuts clean and mulches well. The bagger works fine if you want to collect clippings. I have never run a battery dry yet. I started the first cut of the year when the grass was high, maybe 9 inches. I first used the higher setting, then lowered to lowest setting and it worked fine. I really like not having to mess with oil and gas, what a relief! I have had gas mowers all my life, and most of them start giving problems the 3rd year, then the 4th year get replaced. I just replaced my 3yr old Poulon and thought I would give this one a try. Briggs & Stratton have their planned obsolescence honed down to a science, and it failed right on schedule. Yes, I do know how to maintain a small engine, and tried everything but it was not getting spark to the plug. Yes, I replaced the plug. Yes, the carb was getting gas, and I cleaned the carb out. Yes, I empty the tank and run all the gas out of the carb every Autumn with the last cut. I have a Toro snowthrower that is in it's 6th year and starts on first pull. I have an 8 yr old Homelight chain saw that starts on the 3rd pull. I'm waiting to see how long this electric mower lasts.
Remember that this mower just does not create the large air movement that big mowers do; I used to be able to blow the clippings and dust off my 200 ft of rear-to-front walk with the old mower; this year I will need to get a leaf blower to finish up, this unit does not create the air flow volume. It will handle the immediate grass clippings and nothing else. I run over small twigs (I have 10 trees on my lot) and it just passes over them, does not vac them up.
Do not use this with wet grass, it will clump and gob up underneath. To be fair, I also had the same problem with all my big mowers, so this is not the fault of the GreenWorks.
It runs quiet and does not require a muffler which is nice. The finished cut is just as trim and clean as with any mower I have used. I have not experienced the problem of uncut pieces of grass left over that others have complained about. However, I make a 3/4 diameter pass (not a full pass) so it takes a few more passes to finish the yard. I need the exercise anyway so that doesn't bother me :) That probably is the reason why some folks get ragged cuts with some grass left standing. Remember this unit does not have the suction draft power of bigger units so I must compensate a bit. But the finished job is excellent.
