A couple minor design issues that are annoying: The side discharge shoot is not really held on securely and will come off if you bump into anything with it. I know I am probably old fashioned to even use it, but I don't like bothering with a bag and using it in mulching mode slows it down and uses up the battery too fast. Also, the battery is very difficult to remove from the mower. You have to press on the release bar while pulling it out, but the battery does not stick out enough to get a good grip on it. I have found that a paint can opener provides just the amount of extra leverage to get the battery out. Keep the paint can opener in the spare battery compartment. Also a peculiarity with the battery charger: I don't know if this is normal or just an issue with the one I have, but if you have just run down the battery while mowing and then put the battery on the charger right away, the charge light will turn green very quickly and it will not charge. I have to let the battery rest 10-15 min before putting it on the charger.
I notice that the motor will cycle down through thinner grass and power up through thicker grass automatically. This mower is not self-propelled but I can push it with one hand easily (I have a flat yard though). This also has the option to mulch or bag. To bag, you just remove a stopper piece, and then place the bag on. To mulch, replace the stopper.
The battery on this does not last as long as my black and decker, despite that mower also being self-propelled. The Greenworks can complete exactly one-half of the yard before needing to be charged. Either I'll have to mow on two separate days or purchase a second battery to charge while the one is in use. So I would say this is best for small yards.
The battery charges with a separate charger you plug into the wall. This mower also has a slot to put the battery in when not in use, so you could also put your "spare" battery in there. They recommend NOT storing the battery in the mower because the battery will drain.
This mower is QUIET compared to my black and decker battery mower. Compared to a traditional gas mower it's REALLY QUIET! It's not whisper-soft but the difference is startling. You still need to turn it off to have a conversation with your neighbor though.
The battery for this mower is much smaller than my black and decker which easily weighs 40 pounds. This one can be carried with one hand.
If you have never had an electric mower, you will find that they are easier to maintain (no oil, no gas, hardly any maintenance). The only thing you have to really do is clean it periodically as you would a regular mower (grass build up) and get the blades sharpened when they dull. Nothing else to really go wrong on them. It's also MUCH easier to start them, just push a button.
