NOT just another set of poker chips! The Greenbacks™ are the first set of poker chips that truly appeal to everyone.
Why buy the same generic poker chips as everyone else? Inspired by historical American currency, The Greenbacks™ bring a familiar and exciting atmosphere to any game. The front of each chip honors the appearance of its inspiration featuring a centered portrait, dual serial numbers, year of issue, and even a Federal Reserve Code. The back of each chip prominently features the most iconic events, buildings, and symbols of America just as they are depicted on the real thing. Of course, The Greenbacks™ are not legal tender, but they do bring an authentic touch of American history to your table and your game.

The answer lies in two decidedly different, yet passionate, audiences.
The first group rating this chip set the lowest are casino gamblers who refrain from touching anything less than a 700-chip set of clay or ceramic chips, weighing at least eight grams each. In fairness, this chip set has no business anywhere near a casino or an adult home game.
The Greenbacks 4-gram chips are made of high-quality plastic; neither of those qualities should draw seasoned poker players as moths to a flame. Buying a chip set as a gift for a seasoned player? Stick with clay chips (a proprietary material blend, not 100% clay) that are easy to handle and make a deep pot splash sound. Want to make it more special? Consider adding engraving or gold or silver foil stamping.
I’m among the other audience: parents looking to improve their family game nights. I purchased The Greenbacks chip set for my 11-year old son, who wanted to learn card games, including poker. I chose this set specifically because it reinforces American currency and history.
The company, History Chips, states “The front of each chip honors the appearance of its inspiration featuring a centered portrait, dual serial numbers, year of issue, and even a Federal Reserve Code. The back of each chip prominently features the most iconic events, buildings, and symbols of America just as they are depicted on the real thing.”
• $1 (50 ea) — George Washington/ Great Seal of The United States
• $5 (50 ea) — Abraham Lincoln/ The Lincoln Memorial
• $20 (30 ea) — Andrew Jackson/ The White House
• $100 (30 ea) — Benjamin Franklin/ Independence Hall
• $500 (25 ea) — William McKinley/, Hernando de Soto at the Mississippi River
• $1000 (15 ea) — Grover Cleveland/ American Bald Eagle
The Greenbacks set includes a custom printed case, and two decks of custom playing cards. For less than $20, our family will get great value out of this chip set. And, someday, I’ll buy my son a larger set of chips. He’s a decade away from being old enough to enter a Las Vegas casino, so there’s plenty of time to play now.
Rating: 4 stars
I can understand that Poker players might be underwhelmed with these chips, but as a boardgamer, these would seem to be a much better option because of the light weight (that won't weigh down the game boxes) and the very nice currency graphics. The stickers on my set are all centered very well and do not appear likely to peel.
The distribution of chips is as follows:
Ones: Ivory - 50 chips
Fives: Red - 50 chips
Twenties: Green - 30 chips
One Hundreds: Blue - 30 chips
Five Hundreds: Purple - 25 chips
One Thousands: Gold - 15 chips
As mentioned by others, the tin containing the chips is not very useful for storage. I plan to get some covered acrylic chip racks for that purpose. The 2 decks of cards are of decent quality, but relatively plain and uninteresting.
Overall, I like the quality of these chips for the purpose I purchased them for. Now if I can find something for the $10 and $50 denominations, I'll be all set.
I weighed 100 chips still wrapped in plastic and they weighed 362 grams, that's roughly 3.6 grams each if you round down due to the plastic. So almost 1/4 of a 14 gram poker chip.
Do you want to improve board games at home? Get rid of all that s*** paper money? These are great. They are missing the $10 and $50 denominations which is disappointing, but for what it is, and what I use it for, its fine. And the coins are fun to play with given their images of real dollars. 😁
Now I am also ordering a set of real poker chips, the 14 gram Ben Franklin 200 chip carousel, customized with 25 of each denomination from $10 and up, I think I do prefer real chips, but this is a very nice spare set if we want to get 2 games going or the real ones get misplaced.
If you don't want to get real poker chips get these, we played with them for the first time last night with power grid and we all had a blast!
