Greenleaf Dollhouse Deluxe Kit-Garfield
Obviously The project isn't complete a month after purchase - this is an extremely large dolls house, and a long term project that requires a moderate level of ability and a great deal of patience.
The dolls house is made of wood, so it is heavy - 52 pounds in fact! However, it is laser cut, requiring only that you carefully extract the pre-cut pieces from the slabs of wood, then sand to get a neat fit. Time consuming and exacting, but then, that's what miniatures are about!
The Greenleaf website offers a construction blog, but it is currently not available, at least when I've tried. However, there are a number of blogs from other owners, who detail how they have created their dolls house, some of which are truly amazing. I have noticed that several blogs comment that the written instructions are less than detailed, but I'm not far enough along yet to find that a problem.
If you're looking for a long term project that requires a number of skills - yours, or your friends - then the Garfield Manor dolls house is perfect. But I've already found that dolls houses, and their furnishings, become something of an addiction, so be careful what you start!

My husband (a machinist by trade and carpenter by avocation) is putting this house together for me. The house is delightful. However, some of the wood used for the external decorative elements, i.e., the porch lattice, windows shutters, etc., is extremely porous. It is difficult to sand or get a nice finish. He has cut many of his own parts and used lots of wood filler and sand paper to make the house as professional as possible. Still, the house is looking beautiful and I am looking forward to furnishing it.

Also, when our product was delivered, it did not contain the instructions, the warm-up sheet or the windows. I was able to contact customer service who promptly sent those items to me. Very nice and professional customer service!

My father bought this very same doll house kit for me in 1990. He made it for Christmas. He didn't paint it or anything, but he completely assembled it. Over the years, I added things to it, like curtains I sewed myself. This was my favorite toy. It was very durable. It lasted through me, my two sisters, and was finally done in by own daughter in 2009. It lasted twenty years. It could have actually been fixed when my daughter broke it, but we were moving and didnt think it would survive the move after all that time. My daughters were 3 and 1 at the time. I personally played with this until I was age 12, and used it mostly with calico critters animals.
This was the best toy my parents ever bought me.
It is not a huge dollhouse, but it is also not too small.

Great kit.... all parts pre-cut... instructions are the only weak point. Greenhouse could do a much better job with the instructions...

This was the very first ever dollhouse I have ever built. At first when I opened the box I thought I was way over my head when I decided to build one. Once I got started it was very easy. The directions were awesome and helped me out a lot. I had it built and painted in about 3 days. It's so pretty.

This will take lots of time (>100 hours ?). Look at the picture, The window trim is made of individual pieces. Each must be cut out, painted and glued. The shingles are all individual. It is difficult for me to cut out the individual pieces and my eight year old grand-daughter is not able to do much of anything. With lots of patience, I think we will get a good result. I am planning on three months until completion as I only have the grandkids two days of the week.
The dollhouse is now complete and I estimate that it took about 150 hours. The result is very cute but of course pretty fragile. The only addition that we did was to buy some one inch hinges from Hobby Lobby to use for the front door. My grand-daughter loves it. I thought the instructions were OK. When I had a problem it was usually because I had not followed the instructions carefully enough. I mainly used a low temp glue gun. This worked fine on the plastic windows. The oil base stain that I used on the shingles caused some of the shingles to fall off. The instructions said to use a water based stain on the shingles but I used what I had available. Good Luck!

Lots of wood pieces that have to be stained/painted. To make wood smooth, use spackle from Home Depot/Lowes. Then sand paper it. This will make your doll house look a lot nicer when you paint it. Of course do NOT spackle the wood roof shingles that you want to stain.
