I have a couple of the Ideal crimpers since I don't want to keep switching dies out when working on a project. One of the handles on one of the frame tool slips down and won't stay in place. This get's frustrating. Ideal has been a staple for small electronic tools and crimpers. I like their product and own a few different Ideal tools.

That being said, I ended up returning the Ideal and went with the Paladins. I swapped the dies that I bought for the Ideal since the Ideal fit Paladins. I am happier with the Paladins. The handle design and angle of the handle makes them easier for me to work with. The ratchet system and adjustment appear to be identical to these. As I mentioned above, I own three sets of these handles, but I do prefer the Paladins that I purchased for work.

These come with two screw sets. One is a thumb screw and the other set are the traditional screws that need to used with a screwdriver. These tools are expensive, but if you frequently do any type of automotive or wiring that requires terminal attachment, you will not be disappointed with this tool.

One point - The dies that come with this do not work on the non insulated terminals that slide / lock into terminal blocks. These dies work on the non - insulated wire terminals like the spade connectors / etc. the 0.092 or 0.065 terminals require a different die set.

Great tool. I install stereos as well as after market auto lighting. I use the solderless crimp connectors. This tool with the supplied jaws will crimp the red blue and yellow connectors no problem. It does a great job. In the photos I used a 20ga wire Which is in the recommended range of the red connector but to small for the blue. I wanted to see how the tool did with a mismatched connector and wire. It crimped the red super and the blue even with the undersized wire I couldn't pull the wire out of either connector. I ordered 2 sets of additional jaws because of the reviews here but I didn't need to. The supplied jaws worked for commercial connectors no problem at all.

I absolutely love this crimper. It's nice and heavily built. There are many, many dies available to fit it, making it incredibly versatile. I also have their 1300 series crimper and, while it's also a good unit, it takes a good deal more force and isn't as comfortable as this 8000 series one.

I'm really happy with this purchase. After many years of muddling along with basic crimp tools, now I can make professional quality crimps, such as 12 awg open barrel crimps for battery terminals using the 2033 crimp die. The crimps come out perfect just like from a factory. With the recent change of ownership, you'll probably get a Greenlee branded tool with a green handle, but as far as I can tell it's identical to the Paladin model. Crimp dies exist for pretty much any connector, and the thumb screws make die changes easy. Awesome product.
