I visited the local Home Depot and Lowes and each store only had two models, none of which were recommended by CR. The store employees told me I could order my choice from their website and have it shipped to the store, but what would be the point of that since Amazon ships directly to the house? So I placed an order for this model Friday night and amazingly it was on my doorstep from USPS the following Sunday morning. I didn't even use the 2-day delivery option but here it was 36 hours later.
It took me about 30 minutes to unpack everything and figure out how to assemble the small parts - hose, wand, etc. The machine itself was shipped intact with nothing required except lifting the handle. The motor wasn't too loud - quieter than a lawn mower or blower. It was heavy and took some strength to roll and move it around. My garden hose screwed on easily and smoothly with no leaks. I filled each of the 2 plastic tanks with liquid cleaner (Simple Green HD) and proceeded to washing.
The first thing I noticed was that the water spray was mostly pressure instead of volume. In other words, not much water came out but the force of the spray quickly removed dirt from the siding. It was fast and easy to blast away obvious dirt, but for the grayish stains I had to hold the wand closer (6-12") and go slower. But I was very impressed how well it worked - on the stained areas of the siding it was almost like I was painting as the gray color disappeared and the underlying white came out.
I was disappointed in the soap containers as the suction was so powerful that the detergent level dropped quickly and the tank emptied out within about 60 seconds (I didn't time it exactly). The one gallon that I purchased was nowhere near enough to clean the whole house. I only got about half of it done before I ran out and had to use plain water for the remainder. Next time I'll probably try a concentrated detergent that I can mix with water and keep refilling the tanks. It seemed pretty wasteful.
After finishing the house I easily disconnected the garden hose, wound up the hose attached to the machine, coiled up the electric cord, and found a spot in my garage to store it for next time. Although the instructions state not to use an extension cord, I had to in order to reach all sides of the house. I used one of those orange outdoor cords - not sure of the amps - and didn't notice any problems. The attached cord has a large GFCI which hopefully will cut power if any water gets into the machine.
As I've only used this once, I can't say how it will hold up over time. I can see myself using it to wash cars, clean grills, blast the porch and driveway, maybe even metal garbage cans. It will definitely save me money on hiring other people to pressure-wash my house and maybe even on automatic car washes.
I paid almost 3k last summer for a well known company to come power wash my house, roof, and deck and ended up feeling very bitter about the experience afterwards because there were still issues afterwards and they moved my gutter guards and after 3 return trips to put my gutter guards back- never did (not sure what they did when the came and they never checked in before they left). So my house looked very much like the before again this summer and determined not to go through that again, I bought this. I'm happy to report that not only did I get my house every bit as clean as they did- I was able to get the spots they said were 'stained through' and needed to be repainted off as well. Saved my self a bundle and came out with better results. I'd highly recommend this little green powerhouse!
The single annoyance that I have with it is the provision for storing the wand. Possibly I am not using it correctly, but there is not a very good spot to keep the wand when storing the machine. There is a spot on the folding handle that holds the metal extension securely, but the place for the main wand body just loosely stores the part.
I am happy with this purchase though I cannot say that there is anything about this machine that made me purchase it over any other, aside from the great sale at the time.
