Using it isn't easy, exactly, but it's about as easy as possible for a chainsaw on an 8 foot pole. It takes some hefting to get it where it needs to go, and some more hefting to catch the weight when it finishes a cut. Letting the saw do the cutting instead of forcing it means sometimes you're holding the pole up for 15-20 seconds at a go, which doesn't seem long unless you're holding a chainsaw up in the air. Couch potatoes with no muscle tone would be better served hiring someone to prune their trees than risking injury with this (or any) pruning tool.
Adding or removing the extension to switch between 5' and 8' pole length is easy and fast, but the connections are secure enough that i didn't worry it might come apart unexpectedly.
I could do a entire review on just the battery. Greenworks has incredible batteries. I am shocked at how long they last.
Over the years of living in the country, my place has grown up with tree limbs hanging in the drive way to the point UPS said they would have to stop coming in as their trucks are tall and the limbs were racking them. My drive is a third of a mile long too. I also have buildings that limbs were scratching the roofs. And my third project was 100 feet of power lines that has trees growing under them and if I don't do something the electric company will such as the last time when they grind the trees down. When the Electric company was done, it looked like a nuclear holocaust had occurred.
With this pole saw, my drive way is now nice and clean and UPS sails down it with out hitting a limb. My buildings are free from limbs touching them. And the power line trees are all topped off. This was all done on a SINGLE Battery Charge!!
When I got the saw, it says to charge the battery for 9 hours. So I plugged it in and went home for the night. I came back the next day and the indicator light said it was ready. I cut all day with that saw.
I can think of NO CON to write in this review. I have now put the saw away. The saw was chewing through limbs in seconds when I started and the same when I ended.
It takes a 8 inch chain saw chain so that is not a worry, but I found just sawing limbs or topping young trees does not dull a chain like when working out clearing brush or cutting several large trees for firewood.
As I put in the title, this was a gem find in 2013 and still acts brand new.
Without the center pole it is very easy to use and work with. Fully extended it can be a bit hard to handle, but still way easier than standing on a ladder with a chainsaw.
The saw itself was surprisingly powerful. It cut for a good hour solid with no sign of letting up. This was cutting branches around 4 to 5 inches around. Small branches seem to be to flexible for it to bite on, not that it did not cut them just had to work at it a bit.
You will as the instruction will tell you, have to tighten the bar up many times the first couple of uses. I found that by the third time i used it this was almost gone.
Overall this is a solid tool worth the money if you have trees in your yard.
Works great for trimming as well as bringing down trees to a safer point to saw all the way down, granted these are not Redwoods, but for smaller ones it has been outstanding!
This thing rocks! Especially for the price. No, it is not an industrial strength chainsaw. Anyone who expects that from a battery operated unit at this price needs to slap whoever educated them on reality.
That being said, I have a dozen or so California Peppers that need regular pruning and there are times when this is the perfect tool (I also have a pro-quality manual pole saw and a Stihl gas-powered chainsaw). Bottom line -- when used where and how it should be used, this is the right tool for the right job and is one heck of a bargain.
