In high school English class, we were taught to "show not tell." Mr. Bockino could well have had the same lesson -- in an engaging style, he invites his reader to travel around with him in this fascinating country and join in conversations with drunken businessmen, street artists, ambitious tour guides - and a prostitute. We learn about Myanmar's empty twenty-lane highways, "fake" temples, the giraffe-necked women of Paduang, and penguins. Yes, penguins.
Take the trip with this new author -- he may just be the next Paul Theroux!
