Blog postOnce upon a time, there lived a ballerina named Allie who could only tell you what she was thinking and what she was feeling by dancing. If she was sad, her moves would be slow, but still graceful. If Allie was happy, her dances would have far more energy and her family would have to get out of her way as her legs carried her off the ground and her arms spun through the air like a helicopter taking off. Which is exactly what happened the day Allie’s two mothers, Tanya and Laura, came home wit3 years ago Read more

Blog postToby Gutsall wasn’t happy. He had seen happy people, and he was not one of them. Based on his observations, Toby had concluded that happy people require the following two things: First, they needed some shiny, white teeth so that they would never be afraid to smile. Then, they needed a decent laugh. This was important because, if you have a great laugh, then you’ll never have to worry about annoying anybody when you find something funny. Because Toby was happy with neither of these things ab3 years ago Read more

Blog postThe four of them lived in the same five-storey building. Each one occupying a different level and allowed to decorate it with whatever their heart’s desired. Amelia lived on the first floor of what we would later call Experiment A. At the time we didn’t really have a name for what we were doing, we just knew that no one had done anything like this before. I visited the lobby on the fourth day of the experiment. We thought that would be enough time for them to adjust to having anything they w3 years ago Read more

Blog postOnce upon a time, there lived a duck by the name of David who may have been the most adorable little duck you had ever seen. Most animals loved David, especially David himself. David was so in love with his himself that he never came out of the pond, choosing instead to remain and look at himself in his reflection. Gosh, he was beautiful, with his glistening feathers, perfect eyes and amazingly symmetrical tail, he was the envy of all the other ducks in the pond. All the ducks, except, of cou3 years ago Read more

Blog postKrinsala wondered if he was the first to attempt the stairs in such a tattered outfit, his previous battles taking their toll on his skin and on his khaki-coloured garments; even the red bandana, keeping Krinsala’s hair from interfering with his eyesight, was torn and aged. The voice inside his mind telling him it was time, so he lifted his boot and took his first step on to the stairs.
Although he was closer to the sheer drop above the trees, Krinsala felt more comfortable climbing t3 years ago Read more -
Blog postHarper snuck in as many glances as she could at Greenvale’s Royal Park in between Harper Dane’s complaints about the fact that her and Tahlia Sandsmith both wore the same style of shoes to school today. Harper knew when to nod, periodically letting them out in sets of three to give the illusion that she was listening. The negative focus on otherwise petty daily events were the very things that led to Harper becoming increasingly assertive when it came to reclaiming her time as her own. Usuall3 years ago Read more

Blog postMy grandfather owned a hot air balloon. Two, actually. “Things rarely go according to plan,” he would say. “So, it’s important to always have a back-up plan.” For as long as I could remember, people from all over The World had made contact with him just to take part in his infamous flights over the small town of Greenvale. I’d seen him fly the hot air balloon often enough that I was confident with my decision to unravel it, inflate it and get us safely into the sky. Jennifer was even more eag3 years ago Read more

The baby became a boy and the boy became a man. There couldn’t really be much more to it than that, right? It was odd, however, that the artist would dedicate so much of their life to such a story; one without depth or great meaning. I must be missing something. Staring closer, I realised that the character in the frame was doing something. As a baby, he was engaged with the nature around him. But, as a younger man, he was3 years ago Read more -
