I will buy the Gregor series for my niece who is 9 years old and want to divert her away from the Goose Bumps series. I want to have her explore her mind about mythical lands and creatures and actions packed adventures.
I hope I'm a good Aunt :)
You will laugh, be stumped, aww over cuteness, be proud, and have your heart ripped from your ribcage. There's so much I want to say about this whole series but it often literally leaves me speechless. Every detail of the Underland is so well executed and thorough. Every chapter ends with a twist or cliffhanger that requires you to turn the next page and keep reading. It's a long-time favorite series of mine.
I don't think words can do it justice. Yes, that sounds pretentious and cheesy but just read the damn books. Do it.
Although this book is narrated by an 11-year-old, I would recommend the series for 13+. It does deal with serious topics and multiple traumatic, harrowing events.
He's had so much fun quizzing me. We lay in bed almost every night reading together. For a boy that wouldn't read more than comic book type books last year, I have been so thrilled seeing him nose deep in a book. I loved the Hungar Games books and these are just as good. I hope they make them into movies as well. We haven't read the last book yet (I just finished 3 last night and he's on 4) but I hope there is room for a few more.
I'm happy to say I was totally wrong! I plowed through all 5 books, staying up late each night because I couldn't put them down. I really felt for the characters, even the most minor. I laughed out loud, cried copious tears, held my breath and felt my heart pounding at each twist. It's heavy, so don't let the classification of "children's books" put you off the series or lull you into the idea that it's watered down for kids. It's gory, it's heartbreaking, funny, romantic, thrilling, terrifying, thought-provoking and just all around wonderful!
