I purchased this book in a book store, and was not happy. The cover is very deceptive, and was placed with Halloween items. I was hoping for a selection with a theme. I wish that I had given it a more thorough search before purchasing it.

I am a big fan of David J Kahn, but I have done a few in this book and they are easy- and it would help to know that in the description.

The book came on time. It was such fun that we decided to make copies of the crosswords rather than write in the book. Now I can share these with other crossword fans.

With more than 150 crosswords published in the New York Times spanning across decades, David J. Kahn is more than qualified to author a crossword book. In this collection, the themes are tributes to certain personalities. A quick glimpse shows themes about Charles M. Schulz, Sir Edmund Hillary, Mickey Mantle, Sandra Dee and many more. Notice how they belong to a variety of fields: celebrities, sports personalities, authors etc.

Kahn keeps us entertained by adding Thursday-NYT gimmicks like rebuses, word searches and words running along diagonals. Never fear though, these puzzles are not meant to be hard, not even close to a Thursday NYT. There are 3 grid sizes: 13x13, 15x15 and 17x17. The only complaint I have is that there's only 50 puzzles in the entire book, 10 each for the small and large grids and the rest are the regularly-sized at 15x15. If you solve in order, you feel a little invincible crushing grid by grid. The real fun I encountered is with the 17x17s where Kahn has more room to stretch his imagination. I'll leave it to you to find out what gimmick pangs you with satisfaction.

I like tribute puzzles and David Kahn is a worthy constructor, but many of these were just too easy for me.
