Worthless because of an awful translation

Gridman was a Highly anticipated release due to the adaptations of it being popular the last couple years. The releasing company Mill Creek had a LOT of hopes riding on doing a good release...but they seemed to have reneged on actually doing things right...and in doing so performed Fraud as they promised a Ground-up retranslation of the series that was NOT provided.The box art and packaging is great, they seem to have actually done their research, and the bluray upscale looks great for a product made in the early 90's. on the parts of producing this Mill Creek did themselves? Those are all great, consistent with the work they did on other shows Made by Gridman's makers which they have licensed and distributed previously.But here's where we get to why this gets one star, and I have to recommend everyone Skip buying this and return any copy you did purchase to show what was done with this set will not be tolerated:The subtitle translation for the series is Inexcusably awful, to the point the series itself is incomprehensible. And unless you know Japanese, you needed those subtitles to not be like this in order to have any appreciation of the show.Mill Creek has this problem with their releases that, if a series already has an existing subtitle track made by anyone else, then they will use that one regardless of any errors it has instead of either doing their own retranslation or PROOFING the previous one for errors. The Translation that previously existed which they used (I'd say which company made it, but that apparently gets flagged by Amazon Reviews for "promotion") , was a machine translation with NO human oversight, meaning it's entirely unintelligible; unless you know Japanese, you WILL NOT understand this series and the story it is telling.It's so bad, the subs mistake a conversation in the series to be referring to a film made a decade after it, inserts American swears that reference a western religious figure (I would cite which one but that apparently flags a profanity filter for Amazon's Reviews) despite that religion not being present in Japanese Culture or the episodes themselves, never seems to actually tell you what is actually occurring in any given episode, and has innumerable grammatical errors. And the time-sync for the subs makes this all even worse; either a subtitled line is not timed to remain on screen for the entire length of what is being said, or they are so badly out-of-sync that the few appropriate lines in here show up at the wrong times in the episodes, so what is said instead shows up when a different character or line is being spoken. Sometimes this line desync is so bad, that what is so is entirely mixed up in order so a line said later shows up first, while being swapped in placement with the line that was supposed to be there.This is inexcusable, and made worse once again by the fact that even before Mill Creek announced this release, we had gotten them to promise they'd retranslate the series if they ever did it. When they announced the series' was licensed and its release date, we again got their promise that the Series would have a ground-up retranslation, and their translation team was proud of the job they did redoing it. But it turns out that was a lie, and they Defrauded everyone expecting better.I would post a Citation of that entire conversation as evidence, but again Amazon Reviews flags that as inappropriate to include, despite how relevant is is to addressing the complete Quality control failure that is this product.So bottom line? Don't buy this. Don't allow awful translation like this to be normalized; Hold the awful release accountable by not wasting your time with this until such a time that Mill Creek Recalls and replaces this work with the one we were promised, as the show IS actually worth checking out. But you will not appreciate it the way it's supposed to be appreciated with the awful translation that has been provided.

This BD advertised as 1080p

MillCreek advertised and sold this BD set as 1080p on the box, but it is 1080i. Just like the original one that I had. However, the quality is a bit worse than the Japanese version, sold in Japan. Buy it if you don't care. But like I said, it is a false advertisement. 1080p and 1080i are different. MillCreek should fix it on the next dispatch.

字幕は英語字幕のみ。
レビューの評価が低いのはどうやら英語字幕の翻訳のクオリティがあまり高くないからのようです。
「とにかく全話手元に置いておきたいけど国内版のBOXが高すぎる」という方にはおすすめです。
ただこれが海外クオリティなのかわかりませんが、紙製のスリーブは特に梱包されておらず、パッケージの小さな破れ、ディスクケースのプラスチックの白化など、荒い部分が目立ちます。
本当に見たいだけの人向け。
