If you haven't had practice, I'd suggest trying to learn to fly it in a carpeted area to help avoid breakage. People complain these types of toys are "cheap" and that they break easily, but they have to be made of lightweight materials or they would not fly. Overall, the construction of this is solid with a metal frame instead of plastic, and nicely accented by multiple mulitcolor LED's which can be switched on or off remotely. But yeah, if it takes a hard crash you might break a piece. There is a repair kit on the manufacturer's website (currently out of stock, surprise) which you can use to fix up your craft. Very fun toy, worth the money.
The helicopter itself is very durable. Mine has crashed into every type of object imaginable. It has fallen from over 10 and 20 feet and still works like a charm. The big thing you have to get used to is the trim control and the throttle for hover function.
This is a great toy for adults and kids with lots of patience. The fact that it is an App-cessory is cool, but an RC remote is probably easier to use. The tilt function on the IPhone is cool, but way too touchy for any beginner.
