About the Author

Arthur Rackham (1867–1939) was an English artist and a leading figure in the early 20th century's Golden Age of Illustration. He interpreted scenes from fairy tales, opera, and Shakespearean comedy with whimsical and romantic images that continue to enchant children and adults alike.

Born in Dublin in 1872, Rene Bull began working as an illustrator while still in his teens. His travels to the Middle East endowed him with an intimate knowledge of Arab costume and customs, as reflected in his greatest works, Arabian Nights and Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat.

Twin brothers Edward and Maurice Detmold were born in 1883 and made their publishing debut at the age of 16 with Pictures from Birdland. Both excelled at depictions of animals, and they worked in collaboration until Maurice's tragic early death.

My first Calla Edition was Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allan Poe. It is a work of extraordinary beauty and I've been collecting the various titles issued by Calla Editions since. The quality of each Calla Edition is superior in terms of binding, paper quality, the illustrations, and content. These Calla Editions are a must-have in every collector's library and will bring great pleasure to bibliophiles.
This 2010 Calla Edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales contains a selection of stories from The Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm, translated by Mrs. Edgar Lucas, and which was originally published by Doubleday, Page, and Co., New York, in 1909. There are 40 full-color plates by Arthur Rackham as well as 28 black-and-white illustrations. Each illustration is listed at the beginning of the book with page references.

I was shopping for a volume of fairy tales for my 8 year old daughter. First I was drawn towards a Barnes and Noble series, only to discover that it is printed and bound in China! I take some offense to this because I'm an unemployed American printer! That's when I came back to Amazon, where I do much of my online purchasing, and found this Calla Edition! Excellence in every aspect! Printed in the US of A by Courier Corporation... I know them well, and they are the best at what they do! Oh, and the price... I think it is an exceptional value. Many, many illustrations... you won't be disappointed!

I'm a big fan of Calla Editions right now. They seem to be the best in quality for a decent price right now (sorry folio, but so far they are beating you out). This is my second edition and I have to say they are sleek and gorgeous. I'm more of the deckle-edged "older" style, but these are done so well with such vivid illustrations and great binding that I really don't mind.

Larger font allow for smaller humans to read, but I personally enjoy this book so far. The drawings that accompany the stories are cute, and seem as original as the tales. Plenty of stories and fairy tales I have never heard of are in here as well. I love the lessons to be learned from each. Brings back those wonderful days of sneaking in children books to read before bed...as a child of course.

5 star rating for super nice quality book. Beautiful illustrations in a great binding. This will stay on my great nieces bookshelves for a lifetime. And the stories don't need any props.....sweet and full of fantasy.

This was the perfect edition as a gift for my grandson. My only reservation would be that there was no protective
cover (paper jacket) over the binding, and the corners appeared "scuffed" It might have helped to have plastic wrap
or a paper overjacket.

Lots of basics, cultural literacy, for a new generation and somehow kids take all the gory stuff in stride! It got a "4" because the print is a little small, but the book could be used to jack up a truck if it had bigger print and more pages!
