Product Description
If you want the familiar feel of a console controller on your Nintendo 3DS, you'll need the Grip with silicone handles from CTA Digital. With extended use handheld systems can tire and cramp your hands, shortening the gaming experience. With the Grip for Nintendo 3DS this is not an issue. Whether you're racing cars or playing your favorite first person shooter, the added grip and comfort will help you maneuver your way through games with precision. The Silicone handles keep the 3DS secure in your hands during even the most heated gaming. When you need to rest your hands from all the intense gaming, you can prop up the grip by using the integrated stand. The handgrip stand has 2 angles for optimum gaming or viewing positions. So with the Grip from CTA Digital you can enjoy all the freedom of a handheld console with the comfort of a controller.

Personally, I find the 3DS to be terribly designed from an ergonomic standpoint. The system is short and thin with nothing to grasp, and tiny little shoulder buttons designed for raptor claws. Luckily, CTA's excellent grip fixed all of this for me. It may make your system look like a batarang, but the outward curvature gives your hands something to grip and puts your thumbs and pointers in more comfortable positions on the buttons. Plus, the silicone grip is a nice touch (even though mine doesn't seem to be perfectly molded at the "seam" it's not something I notice while playing).
It has been so comfortable for me to play with this grip, that I passed on an upgrade to the 3DS XL that I was considering for improved comfort, because I figure it can't get any better than this. Additionally, I tend to keep the system in the grip basically all the time so it's also replaced my charging cradle. I've also found it's excellent for playing Kid Icarus uprising with the stand flipped out. So much so that I never actually used the one included with the game. I do often feel that the stand will break off, though, because it requires a lot of force to push back into the body of the grip and makes an alarming snapping sound every time. However, after two years of use it still functions great.
Be warned, the little plastic bar running across the back of the system WILL break! It's only a matter of time. I was extremely careful not to bend it because it's very thin, but it snapped after about six months anyway. I taped it up and it's been holding firmly ever since. The reason I don't list this as a negative and deduct a star is because I vastly prefer this design to the alternative. I loved this grip so much that I actually purchased another with an included battery thinking it would be just as good AND add battery life. Well, it wasn't. The wacky shape of this is actually what makes it comfortable, crossbar and all. The battery grip has a thick plug that clips straight into the charging port and holds the system in place, but also gets in the way of your right finger when using the shoulder button. CTA's other 3DS grip design doesn't use a big power plug, but does have prongs that clip into the space right next to both shoulder buttons. The wimpy crossbar on this grip doesn't actually cover anything and doesn't get in the way. I'd rather have to tape it than have my fingers squished, which is what I bought a grip to remedy in the first place.
So, after two years, I still use this on a daily basis. It never leaves my 3DS. I went with this grip after reading others reviews comparing CTA's other models which concluded that this was the most comfortable one. I couldn't agree more. It may look a little oddball, but it feels great and leaves all the important parts of your system unobscured. Highly recommended!
Pros: There's not a lot that needs detailed overall. This product works as intended, increasing the 3ds comfort level immensely. Additionally, there's a nice kickstand on the back that helps prop the system at an angle which is perfect for those fans who use the system to watch videos.
Cons: During my many hours of use, I've noticed 2 negatives. The first gripe, while extremely minor, concerns the physical (functional) design. When using the grip, retrieving the stylus is a more difficult task than desired. The second, however, is a bit more severe. The grip is designed with a small, plastic brace along the back that aids is holding the system tight. This small plastic brace is easily broken. My first grip arrived with this part broken on delivery. My second grip suffered the same fate approx 2 months later when opening my 3DS for play. My third is still holding strong, but I cringe a bit each time I snap the system in the grip. If broken, the grip can still be used, but it does not hold the system tightly, which can cause the screen to move slightly during play.
Overall: Even with the negatives mentioned above, I personally consider this device a must have for 3DS owners. It has transformed my personal experience with the system from groans to comfort. Just be wary of the fragile brace and hopefully, the previously mentioned negatives won't apply.
The only really nice thing about it is that the silicone makes it non-slip and with the kickstand you can use to to watch videos or just to run maintenance on games that do not need your complete attention.

Pros:
- Good for reducing cramping in my palms from holding the 3DS, thus extending longer gaming sessions.
- The silicone part helps reduce the clamminess from sweaty hands.
- Feels similar to a regular game controller.
- Better suited to people with larger hands, or those who want something similar to a game controller.
- The stand is only good for watching cut-scenes or videos, on an extremely still, flat surface.
- Top flat surface of grip is low enough to not obstruct indicator lights.
- Doesn't obstruct access to any 3DS functionality, like headphone jack, sliders, and game slot (that's to be expected).
Cons:
- Won't fit your pocket unless they're cargo pockets (that's to be expected).
- A bit hard to get 3DS out of grip for traveling (for mainly Streetpass purposes), without being afraid of breaking the thinner upper portion that keeps the 3DS secured in place.
-A lot of the weight is at the bottom, leaving the top almost bare, thus not very evenly balanced.
-When the index fingers aren't on the L/R trigger, it's not really comfortable to rest them on the grip: could use some more mass there at the top.
- No compartment slot for a game or SD card, which CTA's other grip controller does, even though there's plenty of room for it in this one.
Cons continued (Back-stand):
- The box says there's TWO back-stand angles of elevation. It's either a lie, a misprint describing their other grip without the silicone, or the unlikelihood of this being a knockoff. This silicone grip only has one stand, and one angle of elevation.
- Back-stand has only one angle of elevation, and doesn't lock in place, thus falling over easily from the slightest movement, like a breeze or a sneeze, even while resting on a flat surface: not very useful to play games on, or using the stylus in this position.
- Back stand seems more flimsier or cheaper than CTA's other 3DS grip without the silicone.
Bottom line: As a grip, it gets the job done; much more comfortable to play games with, than without. As a stand, it fails. Since I can make do without the stand, the pros outweigh the cons, especially with the silicone part that makes this grip superior to CTA's other more inexpensive 3DS grip (the one without silicone, yet has better stand, and an SD card slot).
There is a kickstand at the back, which is nice - but it is very loose. I'm probably going to get a refund and NOT purchase this again. Terrible product.
