Editorial Reviews
Review
"Invigorating, engaging and a must read. The characters in The Gripped Series diligently tackle the essence of forces that can limit greatness within." - LaTonya Pinkard (Ms. P) from Netflix's Emmy Winning Docuseries "Last Chance U"
"Stacy Padula's masterful control of a bifurcated storyline keeps the reader intrigued in two chronologies of events. The characters grow richer with each passing novel, as the depth of relationships between them approaches reality." - Mackenzie Wells, University of Georgia
"This book is perfect for teens and their parents as it offers unique perspectives on complex issues that teens face today. Teens and parents can learn from this book as it offers insight into the difficulties one may find navigating through high school or parenting a teen through high school. Overall, Gripped 4 was a fascinating read that leaves so much to be answered in Gripped 5. I would give this book a 10/10 and would encourage all teens and their parents to pick up this book along with the entire Gripped series." - Michael Farinacci, University of Notre Dame
"This novel is an engaging and meaningful read, ideal for high school freshmen, while also being very applicable to adults wanting to know more about teenage drug abuse. Gripped Part 4 displays the many drawbacks of taking drugs, including losing friends, girlfriends, and your thoughts on your own life. As a result, Padula effectively shows the extreme efforts needed to begin overcoming an addiction in order to begin a new life; this is shown to be very hard to complete. This would hopefully influence all young adults to avoid using drugs in order to prevent going through this troublesome process, and to avoid losing the trust and relationships with loved ones and friends." - Kyle Banker, University of Miami

The book, Gripped Part 4, by Stacy Padula, is a page-turning continuation of Padula’s thrilling stories. The storylines of Cathy and Jason, The Dunkin Family, and others continue as we begin to see how things have fallen apart. Through Padula’s use of double timelines, we can see how drug and alcohol use has long term and short term effects.
We see how easily people are changing, from only smoking weed or drinking to taking painkillers and snorting drugs, a massive example of how gateway drugs can affect someone. This book especially touches on peer pressure, from friends, boyfriends, and popularity in general. This book has the most severe actions we’ve seen yet, with accidental drug-taking and mixing hard drugs. By reading, teens can learn how to deal with these potentially devastating decisions by reading about how they affect the characters who parallel people they know in their own lives.

I couldn't wait to read the 4th book in Stacy Padula's Gripped series. It did not disappoint! I found it exciting, informative and read it very quickly.
As a parent of teenagers, this book helped me become more aware of drug addiction, depression and family dynamics. This book is great for people of all ages, especially middle to high school aged kids and their parents.
Way to go Stacy!! You did it again! Congrats on another Gripped series book and I hope to see your series on the big screen in the movies one day :)

The Gripped series offers great insight for parents and teens into the complex years of high school and college. In the Gripped series many of the characters do “not fit the description of a drug addict at all – except for the doing-drugs-every-day part” which tragically makes the characters more realistic – as many drug addicts don’t fit the stereotypes for drug addiction. Gripped part 4 is no exception. Part 4 concentrates on the toll drug abuse has on the relationships in one’s life. Many relationships are ruined and strained due to drug addiction in the book, while others are forged by people trying to escape the dangerous grip of drugs.

Bought this whole series of books for my cousin’s daughter in high school who was dealing with peer pressure and struggles of just being a student in these days of uncertainty and confusion. She found them extremely beneficial especially coming from a family with addiction. Happy to say that she just happily graduated and spent her high school days enjoying music, art, sports, healthy friends and asked me to take her to church where we spent quality time together. These books are crucial to the healthy growth of our children. Well done, Stacy. Don’t waste any time in purchasing them all for yourself and the kids you love! These books were crucial in helping her go in the right direction. Ten stars!!!!!

The Gripped series tackles tough subjects including addiction and depression. This is the 4th book in the series and possibly the best one yet. There aren’t many books like this that parents and teens can read together and have open discussions over. I recommend to all young adults and their parents.
