Grodan stonewool is known for its quality, consistency and performance. Each sheet of Grodan Stonewool A-OK Starter Plugs is perfectly-sized to fit a standard flat and each plug has a pre-formed hole to easily plant seeds and cuttings. Once rooted, gardeners can transfer individual A-OK Starter Plugs to larger pieces of stonewool or plant them directly in soil. Grodan's A-OK Starter Cubes come with a pre-made planting hole which easily allows you to place cuttings, seeds etc into the cubes for fast, easy rooting and sprouting. Once roots develop you can easily separate the cubes and transplant using whatever method you prefer. In order to be more cost efficient, the sheet of 200 cubes may be packaged in 2 sets of 100 cubes.

Here is my comparison to these "Grodan A-OK 1"x1" Sheet of 200" vs Grodan Rockwool cubes (1.5 inches, pack of 45) (which is what I have used in the past and decided to try these.) Let me note that I used to cut the 1.5 inch cubes into 4 separate pieces, and you can basically fit a 1.5 inch cube over 4 of these 1'' x 1'' cubes (which I guess would make sense, right?)
Anyhow, cutting a pack of 45 1.5 inch cubes (about $12) into 4 pieces for a total of 180 "pieces" vs this pack of 200 1'' x 1'' cubes (about $18) that couldn't be cut any smaller (I mean I guess if you REALLY tried) I would say I prefer these 1'' x 1'' cubes and save the time splitting quarters off the 1.5 cubes.
*(Came in 2 sheets of 100 cubes a sheet)*
On a side note, I must say that the packaging was quite bizarre. The rockwool came in 10x10 flats (2 of them) which were wrapped in tons of packing paper and taped over. Not sure how effective that was, but it's not like there's anything fragile to protect.
I had never heard of it before!
So, of course I run to Amazon and find it.
It is such neat stuff. A bit of plastic around it keeps it damp, you pin the runner to the top and in less than a month, I have a bunch of newly rooted plants to put in another spot!
I am certain my gardening adventures will find other uses for this.
So delighted to find it!
if you love to garden, do yourself a favor and get some. I'll never be without them again. :)
These sheets will work great for seeds (which I will use them for), but are really too small for propagating cuttings (which is what I bought them for.) So I give this two stars because anyway you slice it these are not 1"x1" anything. Completely false claim, but they are rock wool at a good price and will work fine for seeds.
I have tried these with cuttings, and they work well to keep the rooting hormone on the stem for the first week, but then I transfer them to a propagator with 2" net cups. The little rockwool cube ensures the new roots stay damp, even if there is a power outage or pump failure, so they are a great insurance policy. They have worked great for both germinating seeds and for cuttings (as I described), so I raised the rating to 3 stars. Still deducting two stars because the description of them at Amazon is still completely wrong and hasn't been updated in at least several months.
