The lovely and feisty Surekha is the eldest of three daughters of a carpenter from the wrong side of the tracks. She teaches science and maths in the Bihar Public School.

Ameya is the only son of a millionaire farmer-cum-builder and over and above that, he’s educated too.

They meet and fall in love quite easily, the drawback being the dowry system prevalent in Bihar. With Ameya’s parents expecting a huge dowry and Surekha’s parents having a tough time eking a living out of their humble income, it seems like the match between the two lovers is one made in hell.

Ameya isn’t one to take things lying on his back. But when the parents who adore him otherwise are so set against the marriage, will he be able to make Surekha his?

An unusual story of a groom who is kidnapped to be married. I liked the premise of the story a lot. As is the signature style of Ms. Venkatraman, its hot and short and the flow of the story is really good. Loved it. It also covers the evils of dowry system in our society and told in a lighted way.

Sundari, the name is enough! A beautiful short read. All her stories have to tell about the life of women in this work she is not only talking about the women but also about tradition, family and a typical Indian Marriage stuffs.
This is the story of Surekha and Ameya. It is not a heavy story, but a simple one that discusses life. Let me tell u one thing also, I felt pity to our customs that this kinds of traditions are still followed in many part of India.
The book, for me was a sarcastic look at 'what all things of surroundings made well, for 2 people to get married!??'.
It is actually cruelty when someone has to leave his/her loved ones due to one's family situation. Here this is the story. Will Ameya can make Surekha his!??

Grab this simple but powerful book. The reason for the 4* was the front cover, that could be made more attractive.

'Groomnapped' is a contemporary romance fiction written by Sundari Venkatraman, it revolves around the love story of Surekha and Ameya, Surekha is the eldest daughter of a middles-class family, to support her family she teaches in a school and do a part-time job as chereographer, she is a girl who know how to live her life but she keeps her feet on the ground and thinks reasonably, on the other hand Ameya is the only son of the millionaire and is highly educated which make him the perfect 'eligible bachelor', he have got whatever he ever wished for in his life, both instantly fall in love, but the only barrier in their story is the dowry which is still relevant in these modern times too, Surekha's parents are simply not capable to match the hefty demands Ameya's family ask for, what these lovebirds do to unite ? what steps they have to take to convince there family ?

My Opinion : The story is simple but beautiful, i love the character of Surekha as a responsible daughter who thinks logically no matter what, and even the forwardness of Ameya. This book is a short-reading and instantly captures your attention, the language in lucid and simple, the plot progress well, i love how easily the author conveyed such a deep messages of dowry in this very short-read. A good read indeed.
Would recommend it to anybody who is looking for a light reading, and perfect book for begineer.

This book follows Surekha and Ameya. They are the lead pair in this book. We are also introduced to other characters such as Surekha's sisters, on whom the series would continue. The book is based in a small village in Bihar, where the practice is a burden of the families who have daughters.
Surekha and Ameya meet at a wedding. Ameya is the groom's friend and Surekha is the dance choreographer. They fall in love at first sight but Surekha is very much aware that this relationship will not end in marriage as Ameya’s parents will not agree for a bride who cannot give dowry. And here its to be know that Surekha’s parents are impoverished while Ameya’s parents are quite rich. Also Ameya’s parents plan to ask a lot of dowry from their son’s future wife.
And this dowry problem becomes the crux of the book. Will Ameya’s parents agree to his marriage with Surekha? Or Will they not agree? What steps will the couple take if faced with adversity?
I liked this book a lot. It was written beautifully. Was lucid and on-point. It showed the ugly side of dowry practices which are prevalent even today. It was a breezy-read and it got me out of the slump that I have going through.

A short yet cheesy romantic affair. The story begins with Ameyas Parents Reading A Newspaper About The Groom Who Was Forced To Marry At Gunpoint. Later the Story Moves On To Surekha And Ameya, Who Falls Head Over Heels In love. Surekha Was From A Poor Family, and Was Taking Up A Job In School To make Her Family's Ends Meet, Whereas Ameya Was From A Rich Family.

Their Love Affair Went Well, But When It Came To Marriage, Ameyas Parents Needed A Hefty Dowry. But It's Something Surekhas Family Couldn't Afford.

The story is written with all the excitement kept alive till the very End Of The Book. This is a short read which can be completed within an hours time or maybe 2. The narration is simple and Lucid. The story is beautifully written. Overall a nice one.

Through out the book i was absorbed by the characters,the romance developed was perfectly woven to shed some light on the atrocities faced by the Girl's family because of dowry system.
What truly shines through out the book is dynamics of the Yadav family , it's heartwarming to read about how a father puts education, opinions and decisions of his daughter above all!

If there is one major talent of Sundari Venkatraman, it is to write sweet stories that's steamy and sensual, and this book had it in spades.
Great humour, steamy romance with an HEA makes this a 4🌟 read for me
